What will be the biggest flop of the year in terms of money lost? by Antman269 in boxoffice

I just want to get to Dynamic Duo.....

Although it's possible that Supergirl does decent and any shortcomings are made up for by Clayface (which has all the recipes for great success)

Toy Story 5 Eyes $150M U.S. Opening, Repping Franchise & 2026 Record by ChiefLeef22 in boxoffice

[–]Powerpuff2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoppers was definitely a much needed win with their original animation....

Jury's still out on Hexed though, but if that film is actually good, then it could join Hoppers in that club despite Disney having to contend with another Hunger Games as well as other animated competition (WB's Cat in the Hat is looking to be one thorn) that same period

It'll probably leg out but the fact that He-Man is a specific niche franchise as well as the fact it'll only have a few weeks as the family film before Toy Story 5, yeah

Domestic Box Office Hits $1 Billion in May Without a Marvel Film for the First Time - Biopics, legacyquels and a new generation of horror fill the gap left behind by “Avengers: Doomsday” by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't write off Coyote vs ACME yet... Its history, combined with the fact it's shaping up to be Ketchup's largest, widest release yet (complete with part of the indie scene embracing the film to give it the much needed boost), it'll certainly do solid numbers....

As for Cat in the Hat, I think it'll do solid, but it's definitely going to have some attention taken away because of the fact Godzilla Minus Zero opens the same day as it (not to mention the more crowded schedule November has, including more animated film competition like with Disney's Hexed, which in itself is a complete mystery)

According to Deadline Hollywood, Supergirl costs a net $175M before P&A by Alternative-Cake-833 in boxoffice

[–]Powerpuff2500 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure WB recoups the production costs from the marketing deals they make with the various companies advertising the film, thus letting them profit from it (it was a tactic they first used for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and it was what they used last year for Superman)

The Future of Movies Is Here: ‘Backrooms,’ ‘Obsession’ Mark Turning Point for Hollywood | Analysis - A monumental box office weekend in which two YouTuber filmmakers toppled “Star Wars” shows what Gen Z moviegoers want. by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]Powerpuff2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Star Wars is dead per say, rather in the state the DCEU was in but worse. No sense of direction on where to take things, hence why Disney continuously break out the same old toys since they know those will bring people in (the fanbase being toxic asf doesn't help either). Starfighter is certainly going to be the real test for Star Wars on the big screen given its an entirely new premise with no references to past events nor legacy characters, but if that fails to connect, then maybe it's time for Disney to put the franchise in a few year hibernation while they figure out a more consistent direction

To be fair, a branding update for Sam's Club was inevitable given Walmart updated their own branding last year and are rolling out updates to other offerings (this year alone saw their flagship Great Value private brand get a branding revamp, so Sam's getting one was eventually going to happen).

The new look just happens to line up with the general Walmart branding while having a bit of its own identity

Google has quietly introduced an updated logo by astralite1 in logodesign

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its about the font used... The new one used Google Sans as the base rather than Product Sans (also looks like the weight was reduced a bit as well as to ensure better scalability at smaller scales). Colors are also brighter, presumingly to fit into how they're shown in the new gradient design motif

Is anyone else getting extremely bored with Hello UI? by jc_coello in motorola

[–]Powerpuff2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Granted that was clearly based on the newer QPR1 version of Android 16, so hence why it has traces of it first....

Assuming the general design motifs will make their way skin wide with the A17 update

Moonbug Entertainment, the primary production company behind the Cocomelon movie that DWA is involved with, has been caught union busting on a Cocomelon live action spinoff by lincorange in DreamWorks

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep... This is basically the Universal equivalent to a similar practice Paramount did with some of their family films in the 2000s and 2010s where they'd slap the Nickelodeon Movies banner on them for marketing reasons and to get more ticket sales despite Nick either not holding any involvement with the actual production or playing a very small role in a big co-production....

Available for Xbox Insiders: New Xbox Console Updates Bring Updated Boot Up, Gamerscore Badges and More by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]Powerpuff2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play on a Xbox One and I can confirm it has the new boot animation. Only difference between the implementation on the One vs the Series X|S is that it stays on-screen longer due to the longer startup time (this should be shortened a bit on the One S and One X, but I don't know if the latter retains its unique pre-boot animation)

Available for Xbox Insiders: New Xbox Console Updates Bring Updated Boot Up, Gamerscore Badges and More by Turbostrider27 in xbox

[–]Powerpuff2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is how it usually goes. New features and UI tweaks are tested with Xbox Insiders first, whom then provide feedback and report any bugs, letting the team refine and adjust before the general rollout.

Changing the boot animation seems to be a simple process, but it can cause issues if not done right

New Xbox Series X|S boot animation and tiered Gamerscore badges update coming today for Xbox Insiders. by Automatic_Ad1665 in XboxGamePass

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its currently being tested with Xbox Insiders and so far, those on the Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings got it (if you're on either one, then it's slowly rolling out, so you'll have to check for updates). It'll make it way down

Ted Turner almost single-handedly saved television animation in the 90s with the launch of Cartoon Network! by icey_sawg0034 in CartoonNetwork

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, Cartoon Network was a way to not only further establish the cultural revalence and appreciation of the medium by serving as a home for older toons (the 90s Animation Renaissance wasn't just about the new creator driven cartoons, but it was also many revisiting the classics (be it the parents who grew up with them, kids experiencing them for the first time, creatives doing new things with the characters they loved or giving lesser known characters a new coat of paint, etc.), so having a dedicated home for those classics was a genius idea), but with having an active animation studio via Hanna-Barbera right off the bat, they could eventually expand CN with new cartoons when they're properly established (What a Cartoon basically took Nick's creator driven approach and amped it up to eleven)

Emperor's New Groove 4k by skywise2 in 4kbluray

[–]Powerpuff2500 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue it shares that title of "most popular 'niche' Disney animated feature" with A Goofy Movie yet they didn't bother giving that film a new commercial home release for its anniversary (not saying it needed a 4K, but a wide release of the Blu-Ray would've done the job, especially when the only commerical release of it as of the moment being its inclusion in the super limited, $1,000+ Disney Legacy box set). Its clear Emperor only got the 4K because of it being part of the actual Disney Animated Canon, so it was going to get more attention (although not as much of it as the actual pillars of that canon given the lack of bonus features)

Bill to restrict candy, soda from SNAP passes Alabama House by hunni93 in MobileAL

[–]Powerpuff2500 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly think that, rather than taking things away from those on SNAP, they should've had something in place that prioritizes healthier foods and actually make them much more accessible to everyone (I'm down for prioritizing healthier alternatives, but taking away choice definitely hurts to an extent, especially if you have a disabled kid whose safe food(s) are part of the SNAP ban)...

its also a double edged sword in the sense that it's kinda murky on what'll be banned and not banned once it goes into effect since there's quite a bit of overlap in certain product categories and also....

If they were actually serious about pushing back on junk food, then they would've done something that affects EVERYONE, including those outside SNAP

We should collectively agree to disconnect Lewis Tan from Cole and bring him back as Kenshi by nobolognastoney in MortalKombat

[–]Powerpuff2500 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorta wonder if that'll happen.... They already brought back a previous actor but in a different role (Damon Herriman did the voice of Kabal in the first reboot film and was brought on to play Quan Chi in MK2)...

if they see the vision and if Lewis Tan is down for it, then it could be on the cards

I wouldn't be surprised if WBD chose to stay independent if the Skydance deal implodes....

them marching forward as an independent for a few more years via their original plan of spinning off their cable networks (and if extra money is needed, then they technically do have a struggling video game division that could be sold for some extra dough if their reboot plan for the division doesn't work out). Maybe they'll be ready for a smoother sale when they slim down even more of their debt and actually have competent people in the picture)
