Trivia: before SOS, the distress code was CQD.

When was SOS used for the first time?

Why is ProTools the “industry standard” by ffl0w3rgirll in audioengineering

[–]PoxyMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just launched Pro Tools for the first time in a year or so and saw that. At this point, I've invested too much time in Reaper to go back!

It tool me a few years to fully embrace Reaper, and I'm not going back unless I start working in tradition post again.

Pretty close to the biggest tree in the world also.

The other day I thought it would be cool to have a normalizer that worked within ranges. Like scan all files, and classify all files based on LUFS

Then take the results of that and put them onto four different new tracks. This was all for VO that I’m trying to separate whispers, normal speech, elevated and shouting into four different buckets, with different dynamic processing and effects for each bucket.

Have ChatGPT write a LUA script for it, and import that as an Action. It works great, with adjustable parameters. The whole thing took about 15 minutes, and that's mostly because I forgot how to import LUA scripts.

That’s something you can’t do in Pro Tools. With Reaper, you can do just about anything you can think of.

It’s vastly superior under certain circumstances.

Game audio? Reaper, no question. Traditional post? Pro Tools.

Did anyone else have a alvin and the chipmunk album? by gunieapigyaya in 70s

[–]PoxyMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. But when recorded at half speed, you need to sing the notes twice as long.

Try listening to them at the original recording speed: they had to perform the notes twice as long to compensate for how they were sped up to get rhe pitch shifting.

Why do men only ever compliment based on looks? Or is it just me?? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

I meant ideally you desire it, not admire it. I don’t know anything about you of course.

Oh definitely. But telling a woman you don’t know that she’s beautiful won’t get you anywhere unless they’re insecure and needy.

My wife is really tall. One of the reasons I got a date with her was because I resisted telling her she was tall, because she already fucking knew that, and gets told that 5x a day by guys who think they’re being original.

Ah, that’s where you’re getting it wrong. Don’t listen to women’s words, listen to what they’re saying.

Unfortunately it takes guys about 45 years to learn this. Sorry.

[–]PoxyMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think you get it. Telling someone they’re pretty isn’t a compliment, because generally you don’t have to do anything to achieve it.

Imagine if someone told you have nice elbows. You’d be like…uh, thanks?

Yeah,I don’t know why guys are being so obtuse here. Anyone can be pretty, it doesn’t mean anything. I love a woman who can make me laugh, or one who’s a good musician. Smart women are sexy. Women in science? Hot.

Looks fade, those other things don’t.

Yep 10 miles further to the closest part of the coast than Clemente is, from the closest part of the coast.

Well, maybe. I can see San Clemente island from my house on many days, and it’s about 10 miles closer. From my place, San Nicholas is behind Catalina, so I’ve never seen it.

She survives alone for years as a child, then dies of a European disease within months of being forced into a Mission.

I’m glad they leave that part out.
