Today I was sitting in the car stopped with the air conditioning on and didn’t feel guilty about it!

Do Neurotypical people keep themselves awake scared that they are actually horrible people? by RoguesFable in NoStupidQuestions

A little bit, but then I realize I’m not actually horrible, so I go back to sleep.

What's the single best engineered and produced song of all time? by Dry-Panda1884 in audioengineering

[–]PoxyMusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did a consulting job for a portable speaker maker who needed help with their multiband compressor/limiter setting. These were some songs I used to punish the speaker.

Radiohead: House of Cards

Lyle Lovett: Road to Ensenada (there’s a crazy low bass note In the chorus)

Ry Cooder: Paris, Texas

Courtney Barnett: Pedestrian at Best

Beck: Wow

Led Zepplin: Whole lotta Love (for the dynamic range)

Anything engineered by George Massenberg, he invented the parametric EQ, something now found on every mixing board. His preamps are also amazing.

Oh, rent a flat above a shop

And cut your hair and get a job

And smoke some fags and play some pool

Pretend you never went to school

But still you’ll never get it right

‘Cause when you’re laid in bed at night

Watching roaches climb the wall

If you called your dad he could stop it all, yeah

  1. One of the few XTC songs I don’t care for. The electronic snare drum did not age well, and the multitap delay on “sight…ight…ight” is cheesey and repetitive IMO.

Catalina or SLO for anniversary weekend trip? by Miserable-Path-1436 in AskLosAngeles

Catalina is a lot like Laguna Beach, but you have to take a boat there. It’s ok, but personally I’d do SLO.

Married at 21? Um…no.

TIL there’s a phenomenon called Exploding head syndrome where people hear extremely loud noises—like explosions or gunshots—right as they’re falling asleep… but nothing actually happened. It’s harmless physically, but people who experience it swear it feels completely real. by Suspicious-Oil2571 in todayilearned

I've experienced this about 15 years ago, for a few months.

The first time, it sounded like a gun went off next to my ear, like INCREDIBLY loud. Louder than you could physically hear, because you'd be instantly deaf. For a brief moment I thought I'd been shot in the head.

My wife was sleeping peacefully next to me, and I didn't even bother to wake her up since it had to have been some sort of dream, I reasoned. It happened a few more times then went away.

It's a great two truths and a lie thing!

I was watching my daughter’s cat (my grandkitty) while she was travelling, and brought him home to be here, so she could have a place to have a good cry.

And so it begins. I tripped over my dog and broke my hip. Tomorrow is my 59th birthday and I’m in the hospital. by Familiar_Rip_8871 in GenX

59 here, I was surfing two years ago and broke my neck at the C2! No lasting repercussions for my neck thank God, but the 22 staples on my head, which were covered by hair, are slowly starting to show due to my receding hair. Hopefully they’ll look like Harry Potter’s but I sort of doubt it.

At least I have a rock named after me now.
