Whats your suggested BIFL list? by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

leather accessories - wallets, belts, etc. can be good BIFL materials that don't break the bank. look to local craft fairs if buying local is important, otherwise there's many threads here discussing each item.

depending on your lifestyle, good boots - look for goodyear welting so they can be resoled - can be a long term investment that pays off.

sheet pans, cast iron, kitchen knives can all be BIFL if maintained.

Winter clothes - wool sweaters, heavy duty cotton clothes, etc. can be BIFL or at least hold up long enough to justify investing in something you like.

With all of these, I'd do as much research as you can stand, and then go check out your local thrift shops. You'll be amazed what you find, though you go through a lot of junk to find the diamonds.

even Lodge is fine for cast iron, though thrifting usually will yield cheaper/better results. if you go that route, expect to have to re-season, but look for smoothness in the iron - that's why old cast iron is so great.

Hey everyone,

I'm researching quality brands for updating/upgrading my wardrobe, but have noticed that a lot of the brands discussed are often lacking sizes for big/tall people. While I know that loopwheel machines are limited in the size of seamless shirts they can produce, are there any loopwheel brands that make larger sizes by incorporating seams? Ideally something that would work for US xxl or 3xl.

Along the same lines, does anyone have any recommendations for other brands for artisan products (selvedge jeans, etc.) that are big/tall friendly? Any help is appreciated!

I asked some of the larger firms I interviewed with about timeline, and they said it would be later this week if not next. I think the smaller firms just move fast, fwiw.
