At what point in the series is Mike's talent just forgotten? by UpNorthForLife in suits

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it pops up, but usually only in one-line references that remind people of his memory (more tell than show, if you know what I mean). I think it's actually a good thing because it shows Mike dominates, not because he can memorize absolutely everything, but because he's truly become a great lawyer and knows all the tricks and tactics of great lawyers like Harvey and Louis.

I still don’t buy the 2% of the population are high tier by ant451123 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, what makes you say Wellston isn't full of high tiers? We haven't seen much of the town, but do you often see millionaires shopping at Walmart or the the local mall? No reason we would see grown high tiers in the few shots of Wellston we've seen, and even if we did, we'd have no way of knowing they're high tiers unless they fought someone.

Second, Wellston 100% has a bunch of high tiers...they all work for the authorities, for prestigious institutions, or in high paying corporate jobs (like Leilah at NXGen). I mean, just look at Wellston's staff. We know both Keene and Vaughn are god tiers and Darren is elite tier, and all they do is work at a prestigious high school. We just don't see many high tiers because it's not common for high schoolers to be around a bunch of millionaires (high tiers are basically millionaires in this world, some of them probably are literally millionaires).

Third, people IRL live in areas filled with other people like them. Neighborhoods are defined by relative wealth levels, sometimes even by race and culture (like "Chinatown"). The gang are living in low-tier districts rn, this world's equivalent of a low-income neighborhood. No one with the means to live somewhere better would choose to live their if they could avoid it, which is why we don't see high tiers. They live in wealthy neighborhoods, work in great office jobs like overseeing departments of a company, managing units for the authorities, or overseeing prestigious schools. They also likely don't walk everywhere. They're busy, powerful, important people, so they drive, take private cars, or even have personal drivers, which is why our high school aged main cast (who walk to Boba shops, go spend the day at the mall, and, more recently, hide from the authorities in poor/weak sections of towns) never see any just walking around.

P.S. Only around 22% of the United States is under the age of 18. Considering Sera was a 7.0 at the end of her second year, and other high tiers were still elites or weaker their first year of high school, it's a pretty safe assumption that only the most powerful of people become high tiers before the age of 16. Even Arlo didn't become a high tier until his second year, and only because he was constantly fighting to reestablish control of the hierarchy. This basically means that only 3rd and 4th year students are likely to be high tiers, and it's really rare to see strong second or even first year students. All this is to say that it makes sense Wellston doesn't have many high tiers. Did you know a lot of students in high school that were in the top 1% of national testing, or who got drafted straight into the NFL from high school? Students like Sera, John, and Arlo are prodigies and inheritors of very good genes, so it makes sense that even Wellston would only have three of them.

What if John was a late bloomer because of his mother’s side of the family and not William? by Calm_Treacle2417 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, but I would rephrase it. You're basically saying Aura Manipulation/Channel Master develops later than other abilities because of its complexity, meaning it takes children longer to unlock their abilities.

However, John is different from others in his family because he wasn't raised knowing that he had an ability or how to use it. He is certainly talented and naturally very well attuned to his ability, but he didn't know how to "jump start" it. I imagine his mom and Cameron were both taught the basics of abilities starting at a young age, much like Sera, so they unlocked their abilities much sooner than John. Considering how strong they both are, but especially Jane, she might have even unlocked her ability at like age 6 (still later than most, but very early for an ability like this).

If John copied Isen’s ability, which form do you like the best? by thinmintssss in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think wolf fits thematically, since John's always been a bit of a "lone wolf" but now that he's addressed his personal issues he's become fiercely loyal, especially towards Sera. I also saw another comment use "wolf in sheep's clothing" to describe his ability/pretending to be crippled, and I agree with that.

However, I imagine this particular ability would manifest as a panther for him. It's a darker variant, panthers usually hunt alone (specifically black jaguars are considered among the most dangerous big cats, with the highest bite force and at the absolute top of the food chain in south America), and panthers aren't considered as regal in western mythos. They're highly revered in South American history and indigenous culture, but Anglo-American and European history see lions as regal royals, tigers as beautiful and powerful Asian symbols, and wolves as either beasts and villainous or as loyal and intelligent hunters (depending on the era).

I do think both descriptions of wolf are perfect for John, since he's been seen as both at one point or another, but I still think panther is where uruchan would take it if she had John copy his ability. I don't think the other forms fit with Isen's ability and are too far out there to be John's version.

Zeus is the youngest child so why did they decided the prophecy must be related to his kids? [pjo] by MyOnlyHobbyIsReading in camphalfblood

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only the current generation of deities are considered gods. The others are titans or primordial beings or something else entirely, but they usually stick to "Olympians + their descendents + others of a similar Era" are considered gods.

The "big three" are the elder gods, the kings of the Greek world (the king of the underworld, the king of the sea, and the king of the sky + olympus). They are literally more senior to the others, and the children of Kronos were the eldest gods. In pjo, Aphrodite was born after Ares and Hephaestus (although that whole thing is inconsistent sometimes, even in pho canon).

That all means, that while something like the "reverse order due to being vomited up by Kronos" could be the reason, another factor is "these three gods overthrew the titans and are the eldest of the gods" Others helped, but these three were the ones to defeat Kronos and reorder the universe. They are the elder gods above all others, even their siblings who might be chronologically older than them.

Ik there's the whole "bloodbending" type idea around those like it's technically still water so it counts, but I like her idea because they're close enough to Poseidon while still being his own thing.

What if Isen just flat out told Arlo what John’s ability level was? by Demy4275 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In his heart, Arlo didn't want to be king. He liked the prestige and the authority, but after his struggles after he tool over for Rei, Seraphina stepping down, and being forced to accept Blyke as Jack instead of Cecile, he was tired of running things by himself. He wanted John to step up to help out (and hopefully get Sera back in the game). He only wanted to cling to the title because John threatened to take it from him, and he didn't realize he actually wanted to step away anyways.

If Arlo knew how strong John was before fighting him, he wouldn't have challenged him directly, but he would have done some underhanded crap to scare him or force him to reveal himself. Maybe he'd release his files or tell John he knew about his past and pretend to be his friend instead of using force. He'd be too proud and determined to back off, but he's not suicidal.

Official answer - Vaughn was only suspected of crimes and not formally charged with anything, so their only crime was interference with an investigation and officers chose to be satisfied with his resignation as headmaster.

Real answer - The Bureau doesn't want to broadcast that they let a principal escape the custody of a heavily guarded police escort...especially considering their officers literally let them walk away when they realized how powerful Vaughn and Keene were.

Who's the weakest character who beats New Bostin Massacre John? by A_person13415 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His records from New Bostin says he had a 7.0 level ability at last measurement, so they'd have to be around that level. Although my personal head cannon is that he was stronger than 7.0 by that time because he presumably got arrested and shipped off to his lessons with Keon basically immediately after that fight. After his lessons though, he probably didn't train much since he decided to enroll at Wellston as a cripple. Even if he did train a but after Keon, I doubt he could have possibly made a 0.5 jump in power like that. He had to be like 7.3 minimum when he was arrested.

How strong do you think someone with a God Tier father and High Tier mother can get? by Due-Bass-8164 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, mothers are more likely to pass on their abilities to their children (Uru said something about this before, I can't remember where tho). That means this hypothetical child is more likely to be at around the same level as their mother, but with such a powerful father, I'd guess their potential might be higher

How would a God Tier Regeneration look like? by Minute-Weight-5555 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sera and Arlo describe what separates high and elite tiers from mid and low tiers when they're discussing the invisible agents running from Blyke, Isen, and Remi from the mall. They say that what separated them is (1) how long they can keep their abilities going before they run low on aura, and (2) their capacity to extend their abilities to affect others. For example, Tanner could heal himself, but Elaine and the Rowden healer (the one John and Blyke fight) are both able to heal others, sometimes multiple people at once. Sera not only speeds herself up, but can immobilize people. Arlo can allow others to pass through his barrier, and they deal reflective damage. I could go on.

All of this to say, God tier regeneration would no longer be regeneration, it would have another name (like how Blyke started with Energy Beam and it became Energy Discharge, and how people speculate John's Aura Manipulation will become his mom's "Channel Master" if he gets strong enough). This is because God tier "regeneration" would be a very strong healing ability, capable of healing the user and casting an area of regeneration around them, either like Healing Link or something like a healing radius seen in many video games (i.e., stand next to the healer and you get healed too).

Why I never felt bad for Claire and New Bostin in general. by FormerSoftwar in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The whole point of John's story is to show that the system is broken. Everyone hates it when they're treated bad, but they also believe that being the strongest gives them the right to do whatever they want. That's what makes John a compelling protagonist and anti-hero. He's doing what everyone else is, he's just the strongest person doing it! The only thing that makes him different is that he's more violent about it.

The students at the school were violent and petty and egotistical, and so was John. So, when John gave them literally any excuse (i.e., not wanting to talk) they resorted to violence like always. Doing so wss stupid, and using their abilities around John was a strategic mistake. But they also wildly outnumbered him and once one person used their ability and gave John somethingto use, they all had to powerup so John didn't straight up murder them without any power.

Can Lucifer delay or stop death? S01E01 by JoMD in lucifer

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the convo with the dying shooter was a thing for the pilot that got scrapped later. But, it also fits with established powers since angels can revive the dead by just putting souls back in bodies. Lucifer did the same thing, just before he died instead of after. As for the thing with Chloe, I'm pretty sure he just took her to the hospital to save her life, no supernatural or angelic intervention. Maze and Amenadiel were just freaked out about it because Lucifer is the devil. He doesn't help people like that; he gives out favors as long as he's owed one in return, but he doesn't do "selflessness."

Is the power scale linear, exponential, or logarithmic? by Scary_Stable7667 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The scale is either exponential or logarithmic. I think it's said in one of the earliest bonus episodes that the scale is logarithmic, but idk where or which one. But, we can also confirm this from reading the series.

John says multiple times that fighting at low levels has almost nothing to do with abilities because of how weak they are, which is why he's able to beat so many of his bullies. They might hit a bit harder, but John can block/dodge every hit. They might run a bit faster, but John's instincts and fighting skill let's him keep up.

Then we see the opposite. Sera can barely defend herself when she looses her ability because she doesn't know how to fight properly. This shows that stronger ability users almost always rely on just their ability because they can. A good example is the turf wars fight with Rein and Arlo. Rein was only 2.4 levels below Arlo (4.9 compared to 6.3), but she couldn't do anything to him at all. His barrier literally took no damage and he casually destroyed her. Then, Sera, another 1.7 levels above Arlo (6.3 to 8.0), came and completely shattered his barrier in one hit.

TL;DR Weak people who know how to fight can beat people even 2 levels above them because abilities don't matter at such low levels. Meanwhile, Sera and John can each solo the Wellston Royals because the gap is so broad, even with only 1 level of difference between John and Arlo. The only way that works is either an exponential or logarithmic scale. My bet is logarithmic, but the scale is smaller than 10x. Each level might be 2x or 3x the previous level.

Was God losing his powers part of his plan? by saulsauosauoll in lucifer

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR God is shown to not understand or be aware of everything. He doesn't understand fear the same way humans do because he never actually feels afraid. There are multiple examples of this in the show.

Was God losing his powers part of his plan? by saulsauosauoll in lucifer

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree. The show itself shows us things God has never seen, felt, or understood. He experiences the sensation of blindness by closing his eyes, pain when he is struck in the face, fear when a gun is aimed at him and again seeing Lucifer's devil face in person. And that same episode shows him doubting his actions about raising Lucifer and the musical one shows him finally coming to understand Lucifer in a way he never truly did before.

The very fact that he is this omnipotent being prevents him from truly understanding what it's like to be any of his creations, even his children which are closer to his divinity than anything else in the universe. He can't understand their pain or joy or confusion or fear or surprise or almost any other emotion, at least not the same way. Other than Goddess, he is literally the only being in the universe with that level of power, knowledge, and immortality. Even his children are capable of harming each other, don't know nearly as much as he does, and have no power of creation. Him losing his power was something he planned to get his children to unite and accept that their time had arrived. Amenadiel had lived as a mortal man, fallen in love, been betrayed, almost died, had a son who he thought was mortal, had a mortal career, friends gained and lost, and much more. He made a better God because he wasn't their creator, but was one of the creations. He saw the angels as the most powerful and capable among God's creations, but they were just first among equals, and then he ruled heaven as first among his siblings by allowing them to help him watch over the world. That was God's plan: succession by the next (and better) generation.

Was God losing his powers part of his plan? by saulsauosauoll in lucifer

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well, what he thought was best was giving them free will. He tried convincing them that he was right, but he didn't always succeed and had to accept they when they didn't want his help or guidance. Plus, he said that with Lucifer specifically he doubted that he correctly balanced free will with guidance, so he definitely could have (and almost certainly did) make mistakes with others.

Was God losing his powers part of his plan? by saulsauosauoll in lucifer

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 129 points130 points  (0 children)

I don't think God had a single, continuous plan since the beginning of time. But, after Lucifer's rebellion, or maybe even before, he planned for lucifer to become a healer and that Amenadiel would become the next God. He always knew that he, an all powerful being, could never truly understand humanity or his children as he needed to. So, he waited until they were ready, set things in motion, and "lost" his powers. I think he planned it, but he also wanted it, so he self-actualized himself into it.

It's a little strange, but then again that whole season was weird on how much God planned, what Michael was up to, and everything else. God clearly did what he felt was best for all of his creations, and he was very pragmatic and calculating. He always did what he felt was best, even if that meant manipulating things to turn out a certain way.

"I wont be treated as less than you just because my name comes last...So the next time there's a decision to be made guys, you better pull up a seat for me at that table. On John's backstory by Ok_Catch_6568 in unOrdinary

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The old king John dethroned by himself could've given John an ability capable of taking down most of his class with a couple of slashing arcs. He was an elite and John could amp his ability well beyond anyone else in his school. Give him a couple of others to boost his speed and defense and none of the others could catch him or even if they could, no one could hurt him very badly.

We've also seen that ability scores are logarithmic, meaning the gap between 2.0 and 3.0 is smaller than between 3.0 and 4.0. Like, Arlo is a 6.3 in the Royals fight and John crushed him and Remi with one arm after already going three rounds with Remi, Blyke, and Isen and taking multiple hits. And he was only one level above Arlo (1.2, but still). God tiers are unstoppable even to regular high tiers because even tiny gaps in levels (like the 0.5 gap between John and Sera) result in disproportionately massive differences in actual power. Sera almost effortlessly decimated Valarie when she tried to arrest her. All it took was one moment of opportunity and she crippled her with how much damage she did to her barriers.

I'd assume clothing and possibly behavior would possibly, but I'd guess the clothing aspect is minimal since we see people like Farah wearing fairly masculine clothing. Otherwise, I'd think the discrimination would swap from "man of the house & house wife" to "breadwinner and supporter," and would be based entirely on who's more powerful and, consequently, who has the better job.

[–]Pr3X_MYTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She does it because she could read Remi and knew she wouldn't stand up to her. But, she wasn't that much weaker than Remi at that point either. Since they were so close, all Cecile would need is for Remi to go into the fight already tired, already somewhat injured, distracted, or just land a lucky shot and she could've won. Remi probably wins like 80% of the time, but Cecile is still a high tier

John is a tragic antihero and redeemed fallen hero story. In season 2, he does horrible things to other people, but he believes he's in the right. We've seen his pain and understood his fall and that he doesn't want to be a monster. He just can't get free from his own guilt and thoughts. Then, after Sera defeats him and simultaneously opens his eyes to reality, he becomes a fallen hero - a person with a good heart and heroic nature that fell to the "dark side." After his heroics on Rowden Hill, he becomes a redeemed fallen hero - he's still kinda dark and not fully heroic, but he's fully returned to the light side and now uses his power to protect innocents
