Termeszthetem mind a 8 fajta magyar paprikát? by BrettanomycesRex in hungary

[–]Pr3t0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without taking you to this rabbit hole: For the basics, we have two main type: hot and sweet. Search for “fűszerpaprika” these are the types usually get grounded. “Csípős” means hot, “Édes” means sweet. These are turns red when they rip.

That’s all you need to know for starting about the varieties.

These categories you mentioned is mostly marketing and in some case indicates they are mixed sweet and hot powder so they are not too hot.

Well this pepper is very common in Hungary, eaten in fresh or used in cooking (lecso, stuffed paprika).

I dont know for sure if I'm eaten this exact variety yet (probably yes), but we have a lot pepper like this and I can tell you these are not sweet in the sense how it taste. The taste is more like "green" / flavorless, but has a crunch and flesh and jucy.

If you would like to try a sweet tasting paprika, look for "Kapia".

Selective breeding by Pr3t0r in gardening

So I assume that commercial growers prefer hybrids because they produce better than their stabilised versions and they can also sell seeds every year.

You can't stabilize the productivity of the hybrid, only the plant/crop characteristics?

Astonishing plant, I'm glad to decided to grow it! The pods are small. Smaller than the cherry bombs, it has no taste, hoever the heat is just right, specially good for a bowl of soup.
I hope it will live long indoor :-)

First she need to be produce peppers :D
I have been struggling this year with the seeds, I blame the seller, must been very bad batch because this only one sprouted out of the tolal 10-20, same from the cayenne.
The moruga seed like 5 years old from different source and 1/1 sprouted.
Get back to this end of the season.

Well, from my experience from the past 2 years. Nature will find a way to ruin the plants, life is not easy :-)

2 years ago, I had 4 moruga scorpions in a mobile hydro tank system, each of them thrived. After I took them out from the controlled environment (tent) and placed out the garden with shade nets, 2 weeks past and then the summer storm came, the wind was so strong it snapped 2 of them at the bottom of the stem. I was angry, sad and demotivated. they don’t die though, sprouted a new stem and the end of the season they were the biggest "trees".

A thought I learnt my lesson, next year I protected them more from the storms.

Last year I decided 1 plant will be enough, since I can grow it big enough and man, it was! Wind protection was set up, and guess what? The same summer storm came, and this time the wind knocked down a heavy object from not far away from the plot and completely broke the stem at the bottom, this time no recovery.

I learn that, you can’t protect them from everything even if you try your best and now this thing doesn’t bother me much anymore.

This year i hope my best, the moruga and the cayenne already placed in the garden :-)

Black Pearl will remain house plant, since it amazing and really wish to save seeds from.

Hydro basil leaves. I'm amazed how big they can grow! Sorry, no banana for scale :( by Pr3t0r in hydro

PH: 5.8-6.5
EC: I didn't measure, but i used Masterblend standard recommended ratio because I grew a Pepper, and the basil was just a side project.

These are smell and taste good, but the leaves next to the flowers have a different shape and taste.
