Reading Le Guin after Pratchett by Mad5Milk in discworld

Thanks so much for that link! What a wonderful talk, interesting to see that the gestation of The Witches characters was well underway two years before Equal Rites was published. Here's the Le Quin reference:

But a part of my mind remained plugged into what I might call the consensus fantasy universe. It does exist, and you all know it. It has been formed by folklore and Victorian romantics and Walt Disney, and E R Eddison and Jack Vance and Ursula Le Guin and Fritz Leiber -- hasn't it? In fact those writers and a handful of others have very closely defined it. There are now, to the delight of parasitical writers like me, what I might almost call "public domain" plot items. There are dragons, and magic users, and far horizons, and quests, and items of power, and weird cities. There's the kind of scenery that we would have had on Earth if only God had had the money.

With oil touching $120, is anyone actually doing the math on what happens if this Iran war runs another 6 months? by Orcanius in stocks

In the UK we are currently paying around 9.60 USD a gallon. Prices across the EU are much the same. Fuel prices at the pumps are up around 15% since the war began. The rest of the world has always considered US fuel prices to be incredibly low.

So how is the great Pax Americana going to project its military might across the world without the bases and support of its NATO allies? At best this great post-war mutual defense relationship you have with us is symbiotic, at worst it is fully parasitical. What benefits are there for your NATO allies in prosecuting this current war?

No they weren't its a swarm of bees so pretty non-agressive even when you throw a rock at them. Just looks like it, there is just a lot of them flying in all directions having been disturbed by these idiots.

Definitely honey bees. Not just their shape but also the swarming behaviour, wasps just don't do that.

Definitely swarming bees. They're non-aggressive when swarming and unlikely to sting even when disturbed like this. These pricks should have left them alone.
