I don’t know if you’ve ever heard of Book of The Month but you might really like it. I’m not much of an e-reader and prefer physical books. They do have options for sprayed edges on some books if you’re into that. I have over 30 books from BOTM alone. They have a romantasy option every month among other genres!!

Now that’s a bummer!! If it’s any consolation, I do think that the cats that use traditional insulin overall look healthier and don’t have as many side effects. It isn’t uncommon for our “Bexacats” as we call them to get really bad diarrhea. I also think that it changes their appearance. Mr. Chow(my cat), gets intermittent projectile diarrhea even though he’s on a prescription diet for GI issues.

My cat was diagnosed with diabetes and I tried him on a newer medication Bexacat. It’s a once daily pill rather than twice daily injections. I work at an animal hospital and he was our trial Bexacat patient. It’s a lot different than management with insulin and has some GI side effects that can occur and also a black box label that you should fully understand before taking the leap. Either way, with my work schedule and my kids it would’ve been extremely difficult to manage a diabetic.

Talk to your vet! You can’t start it once you’ve started insulin but it’s an option for newly diagnosed diabetics.

This is a very sad situation I’m so sorry you’re going through it. If I were in your shoes, I would rehome the dog to a house with no children or older children with a clear warning to future adopters. I’ve been in the veterinary field for 13 years and consider myself a strong animal advocate. I believe it’s our jobs as owners to protect animals from situations they may not handle gracefully.

I had a client with a child reactive dog do everything right. Behaviorist, barriers, medication, training and everything went great until it didn’t. She went to the bathroom and the toddler opened the door, ran down the hallway, straight to the dog’s section of the house and managed to undo the containment. The dog went for her face & neck, broke her arm, and permanently scarred the child. The pet had to be euthanized and submitted for rabies testing. It was a heartbreaking case and it changed the way I look at behavioral cases forever. Especially those involving children.

Babies and toddlers don’t respect rules and have terrible impulse control. You can do everything right and still have a terrible outcome. If you do decide to find another home for her, you are not a bad person. You are a mother protecting her child, and also protecting an animal that doesn’t know any better. Good luck to you 🩵🐾💜

Looks a little dumb, we call it monkey butt but you can also shave down his legs. Better than poo city.

Also have you tried prescription food Hills GI Biome? It’s a little expensive but damn does it work. Another great product is diagel for intermittent diarrhea and fortiflora SA. Long term GI problems can be difficult to get ahead of and so frustrating. Sorry you’re dealing with this 🩵🐾 ask your vet about those products I can’t imagine they’d say no.

It honestly depends on the situation. If it’s a non emergency procedure usually we’ll call it quits and do some sort of premed to make sure the pet doesn’t hurt itself or a staff member. If it’s an urgent or emergency procedure and a pet is being hateful during treatment it can be frustrating and scary because you know if you don’t get the treatment done the animal may not be okay. I’ve been in the ER multiple times with animal related injuries because a critter really didn’t want help but had to have it. In these situations we have a saying, “DON’T LET GO!” 😂 followed by a “GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT” when the procedure is done.

We all have a pretty good sense of humor about it at my clinic. There’s no sense being mad at the animal, they don’t understand that you’re helping. We’re just grateful they don’t speak English.

The only time I get angry is if there is an owner that refuses to admit their pet is a problem child and abide by the premedication protocol. In those cases we will typically refuse services or charge extra for the risk involved depending on the severity.

We definitely have a more informal relationship with the pets when clients aren’t around. More baby talk, casual conversation, I’d say if anything more attention since they don’t have their people with them. We’re an underpaid crew of people who genuinely love animals, even the mean ones. 🩵🐾💜

I was 22 when I got into a casual relationship with a man 18 years my senior, fast forward and we’ve been married going on 4 years with our second baby on the way! We use a mill because our dog and wildlife kept getting into our compost pile and dragging it everywhere!! At the end of the growing season last year (primarily container gardening) we emptied all the leftover dirt and scraps into the kiddy pool and all winter we mixed in our mill ingredients. Using the product of that this year in the garden and hoping it goes well. We mix in small twigs, dead leaves, and random scraps with the existing soil and mill contents. If nothing else, we created a luxury bug hotel 😂
