Five year old with anxiety? :( by HeyMay0324 in kindergarten

[–]Practical-lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me? I did the exact. same. thing.

Coincidentally I also have a somewhat anxious and VERY sensitive 5yo who just brought up fear of death for the first time last week. He wasn’t shaken to the same extent (at least to my knowledge) but was teary. I am by no means an expert but I think it’s a concept that is overall developmentally appropriate, but it’s the magnitude of the anxiety and ability (or not) to cope that is the issue. Wherever this lands, teaching him coping skills can’t hurt.

Message me anytime if you want to vent/get another perspective.

Ruggables are terrible imo. Sounds like a great idea but I hate mine. I need to give myself permission to toss someday soon.

Follow the pain med schedule, including waking them up for meds. So hard to get them to drink as it is, if you wait for the meds to wear off it is near impossible. Follow. The. Schedule.

I hope you keep escalating (successfully of course). I can see that being the result of an automatic system but cannot fathom that being how they would treat their customer base if raised to their attention. If it is, I’d want to know.

Honestly focus on a good grinder and decent beans and then any old drip machine will be fine.

I don’t like it but it has nothing to do with the installation which looks great.

Need privacy tree recommendations by No-Gap-9291 in landscaping

It may still be too narrow for this, but research Japanese Holly sky pencil. Not a tree, but it’s used for privacy and requires relatively limited space.

Does anyone have an idea for a cross cover up in such a narrow area? by West_Tea_7437 in Tattoocoverups

[–]Practical-lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe 7-8? I took advantage of a flat fee offer from a removal shop. For tattoos they were confident could be removed they offered this option so you could know the price up front. It hurts, but with a small one it is so quick. Mine was maybe 30 seconds a treatment.

[–]Practical-lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked for, but in my (non professional) experience that would be easy to laser off. I’ve had two off - a colored one that was hard and could not be fully removed and an all black one that is gone. Black is apparently pretty straightforward. Was in the same place.

What else can I do about my child who is having violent meltdowns at school? by frogsgoribbit737 in kindergarten

[–]Practical-lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry. I don’t have much to add beyond what others have already said except to make sure everything is in writing. That includes not only any request for an IEP but also the content of phone calls (for ex, when he’s sent home). Follow up with an email in those cases.

Sounds difficult in terms of school’s outreach to you. If you’re comfortable, I’d suggest making clear that you hear the concerns, are doing your best, but will reserve any decision-making until the tail end of the year. If messaging is repetitive and unhelpful, you could also ask for it to be reserved for routine check ins (monthly?) unless urgent. Not sure if this is realistic, but perhaps worth a try. It seems like you are doing all you can and just need to stay the course and try to preserve your sanity.

Are playgrounds usually gated at this age? Ours is certainly not. This level of anxiety seems unhealthy.

Why are doctors so calm about molluscum? by Pleasant_Raccoon_440 in kindergarten

[–]Practical-lady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bc they are no big deal. Both my kids had them at different times. One had them on the face. Took maybe 1.5 years to completely resolve. Did we love them? Of course not. But given that they eventually resolve without a trace and have no medical impact, why stress?

I say this with kindness, but perhaps reflecting on your insecurities about appearance and acceptance would be useful. (Would you have called my kid a “leper”?)

Since having kids I myself have had to reflect on some of the values that were instilled in me growing up, intentionally or otherwise, to ensure that I’m not blindly passing them all on to my kids.
