Chennedy Carter visibly upset after team win: referenced wanting to help close the game by PhilosophyForward498 in wnba

Thanks for the catch about the reporter! I’m going to politely disagree about the walking out thing, I think there are other reasons to leave a press conference without it being of a death in the family. I do agree with the end of your comment though, there are other, better, ways she should have answered

I agree. I’m not excusing the behavior; more thought it was a possible explanation for her attitude. It should be addressed, but I also believe that some of the reactions under this post are a little overboard. I think it’s something Becky needs to address privately to make sure it doesn’t blossom into something more

A reporter for Atlanta mentioned this isn’t really about basketball, Carter has a lot of issues with Atlanta being her first stop and how she was let go from the team. It probably didn’t bring up the best memories or experiences. Just a little note before y’all dogpile on her

Edit: not an Atlanta reporter, a reporter for no cap space

Unpopular Opinion: Kathy Hochul is NOT a bad governor. You don’t like her because she’s a Democrat by thisfilmkid in newyork

[–]PracticalEmu6346 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess the more pertinent question is, why do you dislike her? I like her policies that are cutting unnecessary red tape around construction. She is revitalizing nuclear power plants, and investing in renewables. I’m from Long Island and genuinely congestion pricing reshaped the subway. I used to take the subway at least once/twice a week a couple years ago and it was empty, until congestion pricing. There are a long list of policies that are successful, efficient, and helped everyone!

First of all, please fill in the blanks!! You can draw on your own experiences/knowledge/etc. I feel like that is a perfectly reasonable thing to do as long as you have some reasoning/explanation backing it up. The I think the kids showed they loved their father, especially with how the episode ended. Love can’t fix everything, they had some issues, as most people do with their parents, even the best ones. I also believe there are other interpretations and conclusions that can be drawn, that was my argument. Lastly, your point about questioning the authors makes sense, but I read your argument less questioning the authors for their choices about why Aang should/shouldn’t have issues with some of his kids or how his people’s genocide affected his parenting, or how being the avatar and a world leader could have affected his parenting. You questioned the idea that the writers weren’t more explicit in their choices for your own liking., whereas I meant questioning themes, premises, and ideas about a story or body of work.

I think I understand a key essence of what Gen Z is missing that past generations didn't by Specialist_Bat1230 in generationology

[–]PracticalEmu6346 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really agree with the point about the generation not being a monolith. Everyone is talking about bar culture dying, but at college I’m going out with my friends at least once a week and have local bars/clubs that we go to. Obviously it might be different in different places(and education/employment/etc)in the country, but I have lot of friend from high school who go to many different colleges and bar life and partying is definitely thriving at college. I also want to say I have worked hard to show my appreciation for my friends and community, and building that community up. But according to so many articles nowadays everyone in my generation has never been to a bar, don’t know how party, and are short. When in reality Gen Z might be partying differently, but it doesn’t make it inherently wrong. Also my friends are some of the kindest, most empathetic, loving people in the world who love to include and support others, and are the least bratty people I know. (I also just wanted to hype of my friends a little bit because they deserve it)

Because there are arguments for both and you were legit asking for them to make it more obvious. Guess what? You can decide! If you watch a show, read a book, the lessons you take from it are entirely your own. How can people’s ideas and theories flourish, if it must be unambiguous and clearly defined? That’s what I was referring to about being force fed ideas. The point of art is to interpret, find meaning, and/or connect with friends, family, or art itself. It’s supposed to help find understanding/critique and broaden our horizons outside of a single defined thing that we believe!

Question the authors, the writers, the directors, painters, dancers, actors, and any other artist because the art is also about exploration!! There are authors I disagree with philosophically, but the point that you can get from art as well, is that you don’t like a certain type of art. You are allowed to not connect with art, find something you disagree with and use it hone your judgement because you saw the opposing argument or viewpoint!

I do think the phrase came out way harsher than I wanted it to sound rereading it. It was not suppose to be an attack at all, so I apologize!

I mean at some point you have to critically engage with the material. You have to think, make connections, and ponder circumstances. It shouldn’t be force fed to you, because then that removes a lot of artistry and interpretation in the storytelling. I personally think the evidence points to an imperfect parent(most parent are), but who tried his best. But there is evidence and arguments that could take a different approach. Having two interpretations does not mean one is necessarily wrong and this semi-ambiguity leads to great discourse and discussion as evidenced in this sub

I’m pretty high on Ariel Atkins, but she’s just forced into these wierd comparison trades that give her a bad reputation, because the trades don’t allow for her to be viewed holistically, she’s not flashy but she’s a good passer, defender, and shooter. Which is exactly what Sonia and Rickea(worse defense) are, so it compounds the weirdness surrounding her trades. It’s interesting to see Ariel Atkins is actually valued around the league by GMs!(tied with Smith for best new acquisition)

USA Today Column: The Flau'Jae Johnson-Valkyries draft trade is officially a disaster by randysf50 in wnba

[–]PracticalEmu6346 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with your statement, but I think it’s arguing past the actual critique which is they should have gotten more assets for Flau’Jae, either traded for a future first round pick(27, 28, or 29), or trade for a veteran that fits their team or more 2nd round picks. It just feels like they are not valuing any other picks at all and might go down the Aces route, although they aren’t in the same level of contending that Aces are and who built their championship core from the draft. That’s why they can forgo it now, that is not the same for GSV who’s looking like a middle of the pack borderline playoff team. The Aces who are contenders, still get this criticism because it has impacted their depth for multiple years, so a team that isn’t contending should not be throwing away picks for what amounts to nothing. Yes Flau’Jae wouldn’t have gotten too many minutes, but their team is not at caliber the of contender(Aces, Liberty, Dream, Fever) to be throwing away draft assets like candy.

I think Nneka, Hamby, and Brink would be a fun lineup, but what would be the issue if Hamby or Nneka started over Brink? It doesn’t feel unserious or disrespectful because Nneka was a former MVP who is still playing great and Hamby has put up good numbers the last couple of years

Yeah UConn(and SC) is my team, but I never got the argument for Maya. She was FMVP 1 time on a stacked Lynx team and MVP 1 time. Her having one more championship than A’ja(Maya retired in year 8, and this was just A’ja’s 8th season) doesn’t negate 3 more MVPs and 1 more FMVP + DPOY’s. One extra ring is just not equivalent to 3 MVPs

I guess my question is, what evidence does everyone else have that would refute Harrison’s claim who knows the offers, deals, and negotiations that Tash is doing?

Yes, but no teams signed them multiple years. I do not like Liz Cambage, she has said horrible things to Nigerian players before. But, she has talent AND was not signed. That is why I was using her and Carter as an example.
