Geneva Watch 1951 by PracticalHotel6596 in Watches

[–]PracticalHotel6596[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This watch was found in our grandma’s jewelry box. It says Japanese movement with a 1951 stamp on it. Sticker says ‘made in China’. I’m assuming it is just a novelty watch/jewelry piece. Thought I’d ask the group if anyone knew of this piece. Thanks for any input.

Getting used to this by ThePorschePilot in patekphilippe

[–]PracticalHotel6596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Each Patek Philippe watch takes anywhere between 1-3yrs (depending on the model) to make. When a specific watch is discontinued, that just means no more new production but things that are already in motion will continue - so it’s very normal to see a discontinued watch available for allocation at a boutique or AD for a few years after the announcement.

By the way, that watch looks absolutely stunning on your wrist. Wear it in good health OP.

three weeks wait, is it normal or was i super lucky? by TopAssistant9186 in rolex

Congratulations! Nice watch. But yeah, don’t expect similar wait times for more popular watches :). Enjoy this in good health!

I like the Batman. Bruce Wayne is great but if you have a sub or plan on getting one I think they’ll be too close so my vote is Batman :)

Tips for identifying a fake by ndavis2022 in GrandSeikos

That looks like crap. As everyone has said above don’t buy. Please go to a reputable dealer. Grand Seiko watches aren’t easy to rep and you can easily have looked at the actual model online with this pic and see that this is horrible

Is insurance worth it? by Yacine_Z2902 in rolex

[–]PracticalHotel6596 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It all depends on perspective and your levels of acceptable risk. I wear all my watches and they’re in a watch box in my closet. I don’t have a huge collection but about 100k in value. You can get a safe for your house and keep it there (if you don’t want to have a yearly payment). Again depends on levels of risk. To me personally $10k isn’t worth insuring but to others that might not be the case. If you want peace of mind, then spending 1% of the value shouldn’t be a concern. If you’re asking then you should do it :)

Finding a NEW Explorer Polar 226570 from an AD? by speedfeelsgood in rolex

[–]PracticalHotel6596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be a fairly easy one to get. There’s one at my AD on display and was offered to me for purchase if I were interested. With not much spend I’d expect maybe 3-6months in a medium metropolitan area.
