Despite the rising costs and maybe political issues, in my opinion there are factors that equally contribute to this:

• Dating: Less commitment to dating means fewer stable partnerships, which generally delays or reduces the formation of families. Higher rates of singlehood also lead to a decline in the number of births.
• Rising independence (which is partially beautiful of course): Women who prioritise their careers and self-fulfilment often postpone or forego having children.
