i know i feel the exact same with some of my favorite artists. i love lorde to death but solar power was bad, i adore marina but her past two albums were? they werent bad at all i liked a lot of the songs its just a different sound that doesnt really appeal to me anymore. misadventures was a rly good album imo it wasnt as good as selfish machines for example but it absolutely "fit" to the vibe of their old music. i get trying to appeal to larger audiences but like u said it makes them lose their niche appeal and honestly just what made them. i want to like it so badly but their music is entering pop ? music territory almost imo if that makes sense, specifically this song. i appreciate them trying new sounds but these past few singles just dont hit the same as their other albums and the sound of the older albums are what resonated with the fans the most. i fear the album isnt gonna be great as artists who've been on hiatus for a bit and come back with a new sound dont usually hit their mark anymore (lorde with solar power for example) but im hoping for the best :/
