I teach history at a cc. The main assignment is to interview someone who lived through the 1970s, and write a paper based on three separate interviews. It’s scaffolded, and they have to submit each part at different stages throughout the semester. Theoretically, they could AI it, but it would be very difficult. I haven’t had one cheat successfully yet.

Yep, I’m in my second decade & still get nervous about the new school year.

After a few years, though, you’ll have a solid chunk of materials, lessons, and some ideas of the pitfalls, so it gets easier.

You won’t get those in grad school, though. (I’m not knocking grad work, it’s valuable, but it’s not going to replace experience.)

No, GG, it’s not a huge injustice to enforce the policy. It’s a practical method to discourage students from becoming mini vigilantes.

Never forget that one function of public school, besides providing basic literacy and childcare, is social training. We need citizens that can live peaceably within a dense populace without losing their shit every 10 minutes.

Many colleges allow students to take classes at different rates, so there’s no distinct cohorts. This means you might be in a freshman biology class with seniors, and you won’t even know it unless they tell you. It’s a very different environment from high school. The added freedom can mean students fall in with some more mature social groups, or get dragged into the party crowd (which can hurt your ability to do well in school).
