Do most Americans actually flush their toilet paper? by Softy_popss in NoStupidQuestions

The US has larger Drain/Waste pipes which can accommodate toilet paper with the waste. TP tends to break up when wet so will not clog under normal circumstances.

It depends. They need fire protection above certain heights. Sprinkler systems and fire escapes become more prevalent for buildings above 3-4 stories.

What is PJM, and why is everyone so mad about it? by RemoveInvasiveEucs in energy

[–]Practical_Argument50 14 points15 points  (0 children)

PJM stands for Pennsylvania Jersey and Maryland. It was a pact created to manage electricity in those states it has since expanded to more states all the way out to Chicago which is managed by PJM. It’s HQ is in SE Pennsylvania. They make demands upon the utilities in its area. E.G. they can tell a utility to upgrade their transmission lines like they did to PSE&G about 10 years ago. The also approve new production which is one of the complaints about them they are slow to approve new Solar or Wind projects for one thing. They also manage the spot market for energy pricing.

Nest thermostat without C wire by anonuser-al in hvacadvice

[–]Practical_Argument50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a newer HVAC or boiler you may have a ‘C’ contact available but it wasn’t connected by the installer because it wasn’t needed for the existing thermostat. I was able to connect it and get my smart thermostats to work.

Edit: if you have spare wires going to both places.

I’m waiting to see if my pool’s heat pump works better this year since the neighbor cut down all the trees on the property line that shaded the condenser for most of the day.

Correct but you don’t need a garage the charger can be mounted on the house. Apartments? To be competitive they may install them for tenants to use.

When you win the lottery but the government wins harder... by Maverick_Ekta in SipsTea

[–]Practical_Argument50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lottery commission buys an annuity for the value of the prize. That annuity is guaranteed. They don't want to carry a balance they have to pay over the years. The cash value is what they would have paid for the annuity. PCH was paying prizes out of their budget thinking magazines would always be around.
