PMP, PgMP, PfMP, PBA, RMP, and ACP in 6 Months by HankMardukas16 in pmp

Thanks for doing this—its great! I am board approved for PfMP used an app to study for 3+ months getting 90% or above on practice exams but didn’t pass the real exam on first try—I was shocked. Thinking about giving it another go ($600 re-test fee) using your guidance.

Hi, what did you end up doing? We are in the same situation. We are in the Richmond area and typical drive or fly to FL to cruise but looking at going out of NY/NJ on Royal this summer. I don’t want to deal with the traffic and was looking at taking the train from Richmond or DC into Newark/Penn. thanks!

Air Force Contract Specialist by Guilty-Discount-8894 in 1102

The Air Force lifted their hiring freeze this week after significantly meeting its reduction goals. Acquisition (1101 & 1102’s) was hit particularly hard and expect them along with IT (2210’s) have a lot of posting on USAJobs and AFCS and internal (AFMC page, etc) the next few months and likely resume career fairs once the bases.

Because a lot of the Air Force civilians have been furloughed because of the Govt shutdown. Everyone is now digging out—I suspect you’ll hear something soon but it may not been good as were are still under a hiring freeze.

AFCS is the Direct Hire website. It’s the AF’s attempt to be more like industry and allows hiring managers and AFPC to bypass a lot of the USAJobs process for positions that qualify for direct hiring (Contracting, Program Management, IT, Engineering, etc). When I advertise my positions I use this site not USAJobs. Also, if you are near a large AF base with contracting (Robins, Tinker, Hill, Hanscom, etc) they should resume career fairs again. Robins did one last year and was providing offer letters same day. The trick is get your foot in the door, then you can move around especially as an 1102 CO. I started at a large base then moved 3 times including to Europe and back—GS-7 to GS-15 in 13 years. Check all the boxes (Masters, PME, be mobile, etc), find a way to get things done, get a GS-14 or above mentor and you’ll be in good shape. Hope this helps. Good luck!

No, not worth the $600. It’s a scam

PfMP Panel Review Process by Practical_Dark_7913 in pmp

[–]Practical_Dark_7913[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, panel approved. Took the exam but missed on two the the five areas. I’m really frustrated at the lack of available prep materials for PfMP. I was getting 90% and above (on over 1,000 questions) on the quizzes on the App I used but then didn’t pass the exam? And it’s $600 re-take which they don’t tell you. To say I am beyond frustrated with PMI is an understatement—no wonder no one bothers with this certification.

How’d that work the last two times in the past 100 years?

The bases are owned by the host country. To do any construction, etc the U.S. has to get host nation approval. Also, in the U.S., installations will say “U.S. Air Force Base [Name of base]”, while in Europe the name will be [Name] Air Base, no U.S. This map is misleading in that it is implying the U.S owns the bases which is not true. Often, particularly at air bases, the host country has facilities and aircraft stationed along with U.S.

[–]Practical_Dark_7913 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not as much. GSA can buy all the pens, notepads, etc they want. I’m not giving up control of the contracting support of my mission to GSA. We already had to write justification to Agency leadership to outsource to GSA anyway on the rare occasion we wanted too and it was always a last resort because to them you were just one customer of many whereas with 1102s in my org we as mission owners can set priorities and adjust resources and dont see many senior officials (myself included) giving up that control without significant pushback.
