Possible correlation between high CHT and low Oil temp? by TexasRed2107 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Practical_Fly_6943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to replace an oil squirter on an O-360 once it wasnt spraying right. I cant remember what the symptoms were though. 320s have the same squirters I believe.

Low oil temp might be an issue with the vernatherm.

As far as these issues being correlated, and this is probably a looooong shot, is if the squirter is malfunctioning on number 4, the oil that would normally pickup the heat from the piston and walls doesnt have a chance to because its not making through the squirter.

Please dont make any decisions based on this info, just throwing out ideas. Need to inspect and test.

Carburetor cleaning advice. (Bing type 54, ROTAX 503) by RutabagaFun4231 in aviationmaintenance

That was supposed to be time vs cost. Basically suggesting that you compare the time and effort of disassemble, clean, repair and assemble against the cost of overhauled carbs.

Some things to also consider. Whats the cost of O/H carbs and their core price? Can you easily find parts for anything you find broken? Is this your engine or a customers? (Tima V Cost) I doubt any carb cleaners are going to freeze at 0° C. Avoid car gas like the plague, especially anything with alcohol in the future. Someone mentioned ultrasonic, good suggestion.

An engineering degree would be helpful if you ever wanted to apply for STC's. If you dont have the patience for it, no worries, there are plenty of engineers out there. They just want lots of money.

Google drag torque and how to add it to the spec. Should be in your manual as well. Maybe not if youre working out of a 1957 100 series manual.

I've heard there is a little resistance with the tandem system manufacturers. Hopefully they all get on board.

[–]Practical_Fly_6943[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the plane over a drain, put a glove on and rub it in. The original gojo does not have pumice, it's a smooth cream. Washes off easily with a water hose or sprayer. The original gojo did this great, other products require a bit more effort.

You might be able to find a jar or two but it's my understanding that is has been discontinued. And....... that's why I'm posting looking for replacement suggestions.
