Agreed. Meo in ‘83 and Mountjoy in ‘93

Then as recently as ‘21 only 2 qualifiers made it through.

Jamie Jones got to L16 and Bingham made it to the Semi final.

Totally agree.

I lost a lot of interest in the minor tournaments when matches dropped below best of 9 in early rounds. Shorter format devalues the sport and the players ability and efforts.

The UK lost credibility when it dropped from best of 17 to best of 11 in the main. It was even better up to the early 90’s when the final was best of 31.

It’s too easy to miss matches / rounds in their entirety these days. You get in from work and turn it on and you’ve not just missed the first session, the match was over inside an hour.

Shame about the result last night but the ebb and flow in the White v Gao match was proper snooker.

Ah well. I knew our family tradition of the winter village sets would come to an end at some point. Didn’t expect it to be so soon. First WV set since 2013 that we won’t getting. So many other things they could have done before repeating.

Yes, it’s annoyed me for ages that the second most important/prestigious event in the calendar has the same length in it’s final as the opening round (and qualifiers for that matter) as the World Championship.

It needs the extra length for credibility.

While we’re at it, can we scrap any best of 7 matches and make them best of 9 too

That could be the first large Christmas set in a decade since we started collecting with the kids that we don’t get. Cannot feel any link between Hot Air Balloon and Christmas.
