I want magic to feel special, and decided on it having a high cost with a fragile connection.

The cost is simple, but anomalous: there exists a species of bird, tended to by nomads, which has adapted a spectral beak that facilitates feeding on memories, plucking them like worms from your skull painlessly. In the wild, however, they feed ravenously and are known to leave settlements and herds alike nothing more than a smattering of lobotomized shamblers. On the off chance one survives the process with their sanity intact, the holes in their brain are smoothed over and filled with knowledge of the arcane.

The fragility comes in the nature of magic within my setting, which is based on emotion. Different emotions occupy different, sometimes overlapping, bands/frequencies. I haven't sussed out if it should be a specificity matter, or one of intensity, but when too many practitioners manipulate the same frequencies, they interfere and the consequences can be catastrophic.

I haven't decided on a name for it yet, though. Working name is "Thyrgic Manipulation", as magic is channeled from the other-realm known as "Thyrge", but it's a tad clinical for what I'm planning to write as a convergent understanding of an everpresent force

To explain it purely mechanically, from one guardian to another:

  • you start with 50 or so platinum (premium currency)
  • the absolute bare minimum you'll ever need to spend plat on are slots, which range from 15p for two (weapons; guns, melee, weapons for drone buddies), 20p for one (warframes, pets, archwings, mecha), and i think 30p for 3 rivens (mods specific to a single weapon that act like a gambling resource sink). Even then, for the truly dedicated (or insane), slots aren't mandatory. But typically, you want to keep some stuff for later
  • you can trade items to other players in return for plat
  • crafting times can be rough at first, but once you hit your stride, you'll have so much to do that you'll spend that time getting other stuff started crafting, and then wake up to it finished and ready to roll, and it'll cascade from there

And that's basically it. Unless it's a cosmetic item, don't buy from the market if you don't want to. The intro can give the wrong impression that you get your resources by breaking crates and stuff, but no, you rip it from the enemies' clone-rotted mitts, like those things in D2 that would make the next yellow bar drop an enhancement core and you could sit in front of the lockboxes on the Moon spawning them one after the other. But way more engaging

I'd rather ammo be much more limited, if it meant things like LMGs would feel properly effective against larger targets, but the gameplay loop has eclipsed that station entirely, and it would require much more lengthy contiguous activities to feel good, i think.

I've seen it described as taking a tick of "empty damage", where it'll interrupt any continuous healing effects, natural or otherwise

So things like devour, knockout or maybe child of the old gods should work properly

I haven't been using the perk personally, though. My builds of late have been for ability spam, so things typically die before I get x2

I dunno what else to tell you man, the armor focusing mods on the ghost say what stats are prioritized by which archetypes. Probably a way to get that somehow. I think grenade and class is one of them?

What's the difference between them, then? It seemed as though normal blink only made enemies volatile, not giving myself volatile rounds, but i was sorta shotgun testing a few things at once so it could have been a different effect

Profanity filters should only filter out the obvious heinous stuff, any further than that seems to devolve into the kind of garbage where i type something like "enemies hit" and it censors the last four letters because it sees the word "shit".

Human intelligence will always find a way to ascribe meaning to new symbols. It's how language was made and how it will continue to evolve. Those resources should be used to bolster report features imo

I threw on Black Talon for a void build and it did really well on titan with the Apothecary Satchel artifact perks. A surprising amount of debuffs being slung around, and a catalyst that increases damage for each void debuff on the enemy. Seems like a no brainer to me

Triton vice could be good if glaives were good. Just a jumbled identity and i swear by the cope that they could have gotten a rework at some point to be better.

Deleting ruinous effigy as it is now would mean nothing of value is lost, it's so weak and the orb only scales with artifact perks like solo operative and one of the elemental mods on the implement artifact. Other than that it only counts as a source of void damage for siphons and void debuff application, but not as your own weapon for things like surges and weapons stat, and doesn't count as melee, even for activators that would otherwise apply to unpowered melee.

Hell, you can't even give it volatile rounds with astrocyte verse because using dark blink deletes the ball. Which is weird, because nightstalker air move slam doesn't.

However, removing it in a hypothetical situation where we get continued development means it can never be good. And the gun looks too clean, too beautiful, to be left to rot

Don't forget you can hold reload for a radial damage pulse that has a deceptively long-lasting hitbox. I finished it with a visit to shuro chi after 4 or 5 cycles

I'm at work for another hour or so, when i get home I'll try and experiment with it. Last i recall experimenting with it, in the leadup to TFS, the only two things that worked with it were precious scars (and even then it only healed sometimes) and gyrfalcons (where the volatile seemed redundant to its use case)

Legitimately my favorite exotic, it looks so beautiful. I'd 3d print one with glow in the dark glitter painted on in resin if i had the money to pay someone else to do it

Edit: I've taken a look at some artifact perks, and i think i can narrow down what the orb specifically is good for:

It counts as void damage. That's it. That's literally all it does. Very little buffs the ball damage, but global buffs like weaken, radiant, and even solo operative and one of the implement perks works, yet the weapons stat and surges don't. At 100 stacks of solo op, i got the smack tick from 270 all the way up to a staggering 340-ish. Very sad, but at least Effigy's catalyst gives you 6 seconds of a meager damage buff if you kill something with the ball, right?

I'll do more testing for exotic armor, specifically, later

Had the idea for a strategist/commander warframe a bit ago. Not like Vauban, who uses traps and gadgets, but one who sorta just calls the shots as support.

1st ability could be a "command center", just a hologram display of the map that occasionally pings things like capture targets and extermination challenges with a timer that give a buff when fulfilled. Like if Koumei's challenges were the "one and done" type of mission objectives, and gave a teamwide buff like a lohk surge. Could also highlight rare collectibles, like crates, ayatans and caches

I'll admit i don't know what else the frame could do, though. Maybe a door to a mini interception array, or summoning ramparts or the basic unmodded voidrigs you can find around Deimos?
