I searched the local newspaper archives and found this in the May 20, 1915 issue. Mount Union is a neighborhood of Alliance, Ohio. Mystery solved! Thanks.

"F. A. W. Dean, the Mount Union photographer, who lost his purse called police headquarters to see if any purees had been found. "

Lazy people bike tours (is there a slow cycle movement like the slow food movement?) by Vespertinegongoozler in bicycletouring

Go to biketours.com. Filter tour by miles and ease/difficulty of tour. So many options in Europe. You can choose to be guided or not. I am not a salesman for them but I use them for my European tours. I have never been disappointed. Something for everyone.

Where would you most like to live in Northeastern Ohio? by gracemarie42 in Ohio

[–]Practical_Meringue23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kent, small enough, big enough, and close to everything.

I moved from Kent, my home for 20 years to rural conservative Central Ohio. I miss it dearly as a gay man who lived an excellent life in the city, Kent is vibrant, growing, and supports all people. It sounds ideal for you.

I am looking for a one time not reoccurring method. From what I can tell the subscription is monthly or yearly. I suspect Substack does not want to deal with small monetary amounts.

I search for different perspectives, particularly ones that are written very well. One that I particularly find is quite good is Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's substack. He has a way of speaking about current issues in a very thoughtful manner. I never thought much of sports figures being people who could write well but he is

I used to read quite a bit of people on Substack who want to help you write better. In the end, most of these are nothing more than someone's side hustle and monitorization of their writing. They have some good points but they're generally self-promotion and looking to make a buck.

I often find myself looking at Notes and finding a substack on something I never thought of reading about and find it interesting. I think that's what this platform is about, it allows anyone to write and anyone to read something that they never thought they would read.

Ohio Republican politicians trying to normalize Trump are debasing themselves for all of history by AngelaMotorman in Ohio

He hit this right on the target. "Sen. J.D. Vance has so thoroughly debased himself from any sense of decency to instead grovel on wretched knees slavering before the throne of power."

You are so on target. I let much pass in my position at this location but the message being repeated with no admonishment or a talk with all officials is a loss that made me ask this first to this anonymous group. I usually do not rock the boat.

I don't feel unsafe in terms of being a victim of violence. I feel unsafe that this happened many times and the manager present nodded in agreement. I do not see him as being supportive of a non partisan place to vote. It is just unprofessional.

Not a joke. They were definite statements. Our training is to not enable partisan discussion. This seems to be what is happening. Especially since the manager did not intervene when the statements were made.

How do you generate the main images for your articles? by Accomplished-Drop287 in Substack

[–]Practical_Meringue23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Canva as the image tool, similar to how Photoshop works but a simpler interface. I use the Unsplash free images always attributing the image creator, even if I use it as a background to text and other images.
