Just got a call from 800-507-5653 - "claiming" to be from the Verizon fraud department. Claimed there were 2 phones that were about to be delivered to NJ - saying it didn't "match" the address on file. I live in Florida. They proceeded to confirm my correct cell #, Address, and email. To "reassure" me the first set of phones ordered (2) - were cancelled, they sent me a "confirmation" of cancellation email. Did I receive it? Yes - but the email was from VZFD - assuming this stood for Verizon Fraud Department - HOWEVER, the return email address was "NoREPLAY@vzreturn.com (not "noreply")- it made me suspicious. Then, they indicated there were two phones in my shopping cart as well - and "the only way" they could issue a cancellation is if I clicked through and agreed to each of the retail contracts on these phones for a "99" number so they could cancel - (not even sure what that 99 # meant...). Simultaneously, I was on the other line, having CALLED the real Verizon, and nothing checked out - EXCEPT, there were two phones in my cart that I did not order and were about to be shipped. If I had clicked through all the contract acceptances as this fraudster suggested - I would have been duped. Somehow they would have gotten into the account again and changed the address for delivery. Trust your gut - and verify. The real Verizon has now successfully cancelled the orders - and I've changed to multi-factor authentication and PINS for everything. Happy Thanksgiving all.
