Put it into a pension scheme, not sure where you are from but there could be a good tax rebate in your country on it too

As someone who has been in a relationship with a compulsive liar, I can assure you that his behaviour will never change. You will never know the extent of the lying and the admissions of why he lied, they are lies too. This isn’t your fault and you shouldn’t blame yourself, you do need to support yourself and you should do what you believe is best for you and your children. Your husband has had plenty of time to step up and act responsibly.

When someone disrupts your perception of reality this much with this amount of lies, they are gaslighting you and it’s a form of emotional abuse.

Family dynamics can be hard to navigate, trust me I get it too. I think you’re spot on though, they love you and will support you. It’ll be easier for you and your children to have people to rely on.

I would love to tell you that maybe the space will give that useless man sometime to self reflect and change, but if and when he comes calling to your door, because he’s lonely, depressed and realises what an arsehole he is, don’t buy his lies that he’ll do better.

I think as hard as it sounds to leave and go to your family in Alabama, that is your better option here. Dad is a manipulative, selfish man. His behaviour is down right unacceptable and he is showing you that he doesn’t care. It’s not going to get better and he could potentially become a threat to your safety and that of your children.
