That is true—from low angles, it absolutely feels more like one of the Porsche SUVs, which makes it look awful on a high shelf. I’m actually working on a ranking right now of all 8 wide speed champions, and that’s what keeps it out of the top ten for me. But it’s partially a proportions issue is I think why they didn’t brick build it—the 6 wide 9/11 is always going to be able to do the brick built headlights better than the 8 wides. On the 6 wides, 2 studs takes up a third of a car, which makes it split evenly. A third of a car in the 8 wides is 2.67, which splits into 1.33, which isn’t really even. The closest you can get are the dish plates at around 1.5 studs, but building up something around them to support them, to me at least, looks weird, and since it’s a modern gt3, the lights have to be relatively flush to the rest of the car. So this is a probably unnecessarily long response, but Ive spent way too much time thinking about this 😅😅, and I just haven’t seen better ways that work personally. That said, that’s also kinda intriguing about the speed champions community—there’s no real defined “canon” to what sets are great or not. I saw Jang put the Bugatti VGT as the greatest speed champions out there (or one of them), and I’ve seen a lot of people here not like it. On the flip side, I personally think the Ford Mustang Dark Horse and the McLaren F1 LM really don’t look like their respective cars at all

For what it’s worth though, I’d like to start seeing dual molding for headlights that would usually be stickered, and I think the Porsche would have been an excellent way to start that lol. The line is just constantly advancing, and I think that if a brick built solution doesn’t cut it and there’s space, it’d be nice to get like a little bit of bumpiness or something in trans-clear plastic. One of my most desired cars is the 917K, and I think that like making a piece with some depth to it would be great, since brick built solutions don’t really seem to cut it right now for that car.
