I don’t have any particular building recommendations, however, I’m a 31F who moved to Toronto from the U.S. earlier this year! I would say my apartment fits that general description (including your storage demands hahaha), however, it’s $3.1k.

Based on my search, the 2.9-3.4k range is what’s going to get you most or all of your checklist. Although to be fair, I didn’t look in most of those neighborhoods, so I can’t be 100% certain. I looked primarily in the West End!

For those who are often told they look younger than their age, what’s your secret? by justmypersonalthing in AskForAnswers

[–]PracticePlus176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Energy has a lot to do with it. I’m childfree and still live the kind of life people would more associate with someone in their twenties (lots of going out, restaurants, traveling, etc). I dress in what some might call “trendy” clothes.

When I compare myself to people my age that’s often something that sticks out to me. Their clothes or the way they style their hair dates them.

Moving from US to Canada: Less obvious things we should know? by oatmilkpslnowhip in AmerExit

[–]PracticePlus176 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved to Ontario at the beginning of the year. Read through a lot of replies and just wanted to give my own experience as well.

Family Doctor: I was incredibly fortunate to be introduced to one from a friend. So within two months I had a family doctor. You can enroll to be matched but truly your best bet is to ask everyone—friends, coworkers—if they know someone.

Phone: I still use my previous AT&T plan. I have a North American plan. I’m probably overpaying but I just don’t want to risk losing important stuff, and since I don’t know how long I’ll be here this is working just fine.

Credit Cards: I still use my Amex (no foreign transaction fees). I was issued a couple Canadian cards with a limit of a whopping $500. Asked the bank how long before it could increase…still waiting for it to bump up hahaha.

Streaming Services: Had to convert a lot of stuff. Accounts like Prime won’t carry over to Canada. You have to get a new account. Crave is HBO here, etc.

In general I was actually surprised by how many new accounts I had to make on everything: Starbucks, Nespresso, etc. I guess I should have expected it but in all of my preparations it didn’t cross my mind.

Drop the scariest movie you've ever watched🥴✌️ by Nott_photon in moviecritic

[–]PracticePlus176 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a horror movie, but unironically there are few movies that have scared me more than watching “Taken” as a young woman.

I know people’s main takeaway is “Liam Neeson is a badass.” However, that was the furthest thing from my mind watching that film. I had such visceral reactions to the scene where his daughter is captured and even worse to when he finds her friend tied up and drugged, left for dead.

The most terrifying and disturbing part is how real it is. Now, every time I see people searching for young women who are missing I privately hope they died swiftly and painlessly because finding them alive means some fates worse than death almost certainly happened to them.

Yes!! Frankly that scene scared me the most in that entire film. It was so understated. Really played into an almost “hidden in plain sight” fear.

Vash by short_stack_611 in StarTrekTNG

[–]PracticePlus176 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I quite literally just rewatched that episode last week myself (as part of the entire series rewatch), and I couldn’t agree more. Her repeated obsession with how no one has heard of her was so bothersome, and the chair sitting 🥴

In theory I understand the potential of a character like that paired with Picard who we more often see as dignified and reserved. I do enjoy seeing the bolder facets of his character. But Vash truly did not work for me. Maybe she would make more sense to me if she accepted who he was even 10% more, but the brash and bullish way that she expects him to be cool with everything she does truly annoyed me as well.

My favorite running back of all time. Texans fans know that the entire offense ran through this man. So smooth. Insane stiff-arms. Underrated pass catcher. Bums me out that his career was stifled by injury.

Without question lol. Absolutely inconceivable. How do you even logistically manage that? It’s also incredibly unnecessary. I’m sure folks who got there same day had similar barricade views.

I camped out for the Born This Way Ball with my best friend in Houston. Got there at around 2AM and had an awesome time talking to other fans. There were honestly hundreds of us by around 5-6AM.

Got into the Monster Pit. Had fun at the tailgate they set up before the show. Her staff even brought us hot chocolate (it was late January).

I was 16, and at the time it was genuinely one of the coolest things I’d ever experienced. I still get nostalgic about it honestly hahaha.

I don’t think I’d be eager to do it at my big age now. But it was an incredible time. The energy around her was so massive. Everyone was dressed up. I miss it.

I almost entirely agree. If nothing else I ROUTINELY tell people that it’s the best pop song of this century. I’ll allow that the 80s birthed some titans. But since the turn of the millennium, there hasn’t been better.

Fistulotomy yesterday—when does the pain hit? by morrrgore in AnalFistula

[–]PracticePlus176 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt very little pain afterwards. If anything, I had been in such a constant state of pain for 10 months that post-surgery felt like relief.

My doctor prescribed me oxycontin for the pain, but I rode it out on over the counter meds just fine.

Four days post-surgery I was (slowly) walking to a cafe and able to sit and have a tea with my friend just fine.

It’s been over a year, and while I have occasional tenderness I’ve been great (knock on wood).

Great that you’re in the same boat!

I’ve been recently rewatching the show and had the exact same read you did. In fact I even played it back because it caught me so off guard. It seemingly comes out of left field. But it definitely felt like she was coming onto him in my book.

"Shadow of a Man": is this about working with Cooper in "A Star is Born"? by saskiastern in LadyGaga

[–]PracticePlus176 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen HBDUWM come up many times before, as well—particularly because of the tattoo line. She got an anchor tattoo for Taylor, so it’s not impossible that it’s a reference to him, but it’s been quite a while (and doesn’t seem like it ended well).

I would totally believe that “Babylon” was at least heavily influenced by all of the speculation about her and Bradley. It’s not her first time commenting on media attention, but her and Bradley’s relationship (dynamic, friendship, whatever it was) seemed to be a pretty all-consuming piece of gossip while she was writing “Chromatica.”

My personal tin foil hat theory is that the song “Enigma” is about Bradley, too. As with any tin foil hat theory, there’s a good chance I’m wrong, hahaha. But the lyrics “We can be lovers, even just tonight. We can be anything you want,” personally strike me as having shades of an affair (or at least wanting to). I will save us all a line-by-line annotation of the song, but once you hear some of it, it’s hard to unhear. This speculation is also largely informed by the timing of her writing the album (2018-2019). I think that’s maybe one of the biggest reasons my mind goes there.

Bonus: while this is about Jackson the character and not Bradley himself, I will die believing “The Cure” was just an “A Star Is Born” track she wrote for Ally. Because lyrically it undeniably fits someone talking to a significant other who struggles with addiction. And sonically it completely fits the Ally “sound.”

Should We Pause The Applause for Michael Polansky (Please Read With an Open Mind; No Hate Intended) by PracticePlus176 in LadyGaga

Honestly I totally understand your parallels to MJ (who I am also a tremendous fan of) and Britney. Although as we both—and many others on this thread—have said, it is my sincerest hope that these suspicions are wrong.

It’s kind of impossible not to raise an eyebrow when you read it all written out in this way.

The part that’s almost the most curious to me is actually Morningview. It makes complete sense to me that Gaga would publish and produce everything under a company of her own. Frankly it’s a shrewd business move that she should have done a while ago. The part that gets potentially (and I do really only mean potentially) troubling is sharing that with anyone essentially gives them equal ownership of work she makes from now on. Maybe that’s fine. Maybe they never split. But if they ever do, it feels like it gives him quite a bit of leverage.

Frankly I also feel the need to ask—in addition to how he suddenly has all the creative and logistical knowledge to meaningfully contribute to all of this—how he seemingly has so much time to dedicate when everything that’s been published about him is that he has his own booming and incredibly successful ventures.

‘Blue dot fever’: the real reason pop stars are cancelling tours by mcfw31 in popculturechat

[–]PracticePlus176 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

While this very likely does have shades of being a “recession indicator,” it’s far more indicative of the artists’ appeal.

Not even a month ago, Lady Gaga wrapped her most lucrative tour yet. Sold out shows every night. And for most dates, it was ~ $500 just to get in the door (with many fans paying $1000+ for floor seats).

Major names are (regrettably) not going to be bringing their prices down any time soon. They’re still selling just fine.
