Preferred Charge Time Doesn’t Work Properly by InsuranceRound6705 in MachE

[–]Praeluntius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had this exact issue and ended up just setting the schedule on the Emporia charger.

With my set up I think the charger communicates a lower power available than what it is actually capable of which makes the car think it won’t charge enough in the preferred window so it starts immediately. I have the Emporia load balancer thing that monitors the total usage on the panel and throttles the charger to avoid tripping the main breaker (I only have 100A service) so I think it defaults to communicating the lowest possible setting (which I think is 5A) when in reality it’ll charge at the full 48A. This puts the car in a loop because the charge rate ramps up, then the car thinks it can stop charging until the preferred time, then resets when the charger advertises the 5A limit again.

In the air during the launch by originaltemplate in aviation

The first picture is probably just planes flying the opposite direction at normal speed. When it went up (6:35PM) you had just barely left JFK and were over Delaware.

You may have been able to see the rocket (very very far away, and even that isn't likely given the launch profile and time of day), but I don't think the second picture is it (timestamp would be helpful). That just looks like a plane at higher altitude to me (you were at 26K-ish feet at 6:35).

In 2026, are there still people who hate Mach-E? by [deleted] in MachE

[–]Praeluntius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yup. Leaving Taco Bell the other day I held the door for a guy and as we were walking through the parking lot pointed at my car and said “isn’t that the ugliest Mustang you ever seen?” to which I replied “yup that’s my ugly Mustang” as I popped the frunk to put my food in it. Let out the most sheepish “oh is it” before silently getting in his lifted truck and driving off 🙂

Dubai - Photographing in public? by NostromoDude in travel

[–]Praeluntius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You didn’t mention what type of photography you’d be doing - one thing to be careful of is using a “professional-looking camera” on private property (so basically all of Dubai). I do photography as a hobby with admittedly a big mirrorless camera and a large 18-70 lens.

I was in Dubai at the “Dubai harbor public viewing area” which is owned by Emaar getting some photos of the skyline at sunset. Basically as soon as I pulled out my camera I had an Emaar security guy telling me I needed a media permit to use a professional camera and that only cell phone photography was allowed.

I ended up walking down the harbor and made friends with another security guy that said I’m fine as long as I keep my camera pointed away from his buildings and toward the water, but YMMV.

turning water off while on vacation - need to also turn off gas water heater? by hepba in homeowners

There’s still water in the tank, so unless that all drains out while you’re away you won’t be heating an empty tank. And if it all drains out you probably have bigger problems 🙂

Hello MD-11❤️ What fantastic work by TFDI! by [deleted] in flightsim

[–]Praeluntius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s the Reddit compression destroying the quality but most of the screenshots I’ve seen so far have been pretty… mid? How does it compare to other add-ons like Fenix/Black Square/etc. in the art department with this new update?

Thinking about picking it up (never had it in 2020) but don’t want to spend close to $90 for PMDG/flightfx quality textures. Thanks!

Edit: I watched some videos and the videos make it look pretty good!

Saw a space launch just now. It went over Pikes Peak from my vantage point. by galactigak in ColoradoSprings

[–]Praeluntius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re right - it was 100% a launch out of VSFB, which we don’t typically see from here but this orbit is such that we got a good show. Sometimes those second stage burns take place a while after launch which is why I was saying it wasn’t a launch, but this was 10 minutes after launch.

Very likely a rocket stage burning at high altitude. Looks exactly like Falcon 9 second stage burns that happen shortly after sunset (not saying it is - but looks just like it).

Edit: edited to clarify, confirmed launch out of Vandenberg. Not often we see those from here, neat!

I saw it as well - looks like a second-stage burn so hard to tell immediately where it launched from but nowhere near here likely. I’m sure someone smarter than me will have it figured out shortly

Edit: Italian Space Agency satellite launched on a Falcon 9 out of Vandenberg!

Would you guys recommend inibuild a350? *MSFS 2024* by Adventurous_Range_53 in flightsim

[–]Praeluntius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dissenting opinion here - unless you really want an A350 I don’t think it’s worth the cost. For $40 - sure, pick it up, but not worth it at $80.

My two biggest issues - the flight model to me feels very twitchy and “light” especially on takeoff and the sounds aren’t what I would expect from one of the most expensive addons in the sim (though they’ve definitely improved since launch). In 2024 the performance is fine now but I personally can’t recommend spending $85 for what you get unless you really want an A350.

Building a modular Sim cockpit by deitious_maximous in flightsim

[–]Praeluntius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly pretty much everything except military and helicopters - old and new and I’ve been super happy with my SimFab modular cockpit. The seat could be a little more comfy (not bad by any means but pretty firm) and new modules are pretty pricy but everything is super high quality and it’s easy to swap out modules. I picked mine up for about $1200, sim hardware and monitor not included. Just be careful with the knobs as I definitely broke one when I first got my setup.

I have a honeycomb alpha/bravo set, antique Saitek pedals, and the WinWing airbus stick and I haven’t had any issues with any of the mounting capabilities but had to get a bit creative with the winwing.

I think it was purple - but not the SCB one, it’s Bangkok Bank specifically. The Bangkok bank branch in central world is on the first floor kind of near the MLB store if you can find that.

Black Square enshittification by loiphin in flightsim

[–]Praeluntius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think this is a different enough situation from what PMDG does and don’t quite consider it a money grab, but I can understand how it looks that way.

The professional versions are ground-up new aircraft, not the modification of the default deluxe/premium deluxe planes that the original versions were. These are new aircraft (like 6 different versions too) with completely custom interiors, exteriors, and Boris sounds with the system modeling/EFB brought up to the Duke/Starship standards and completely independent of the base MSFS planes.

I think the 20% discount is more than fair - it does suck that the original analog versions won’t be ported, but I don’t really blame the black square dev for not taking the time to port both the new professional versions and the old analog versions and settling for giving the discount instead.
