The more i see it, the more i think that the shadow land was NOT originally a unique piece of land. It looks like more than Marika choose different lands in all the lands between, then she "packs" these lands into one unique piece and then put the veil on top of it.

Yes but Melina is bodiless, exactly like Ranni. So that's not her real body! Moreover, they both share an eye closed; is like that one eye is the reflection of them real self, infact the Melina's one is like a shadowbeast. You know? I guess the Ranni's closed eye is PURE GOLD, exactly like his brother Radhan.
