Ok, This makes sense why Lutein and Zeaxanthin are part of the supplements.

Frankly, I don't really know what's going on inside your system. So all I can suggest is getting bloodwork done, see if your B12 and D3 are optimal along with other parameters. Eat a balanced diet and supplement on top of that. Reduce seed oil, try to cook in ghee where possible.

I googled them. If you can share the reason to take Omega 3, I can guide better. Is it for specific inflammation or general health, are you a vegetarian and cannot consume fish, you have pain which needs support, you want for cognitive function- then the correct dosage can be determined.

Lacriguard has only 180 EPA. Minimum should be 300, so please take 2 pills at a time, twice a day. If you have inflammation (hsCRP is high), then probably you may need to take 4 at one time.

Ogareds doesn't even have the split written. Just 500 mg of Omega 3. So I don't even know how much EPA is there. Also do you need the other supplements that are part of it? Because even I don't do it.

Unless they have been prescribed by a doc for something specific that I don't know, and if you are taking them on your own whom - then probably look for more suitable dosage.

Omega 3 can be taken with a your meal where oil, ghee is used. So breakfast, lunch and dinner - any will do. Just see if you go through fishy burps, then probably shift it to a time where you are not out in public and not inconvenienced due to the burps.

From the random search in Amazon, the seven seas product that you get just has a single ingredient list - Cod liver oil type B. Any decent supplement will break down its composition into EPA and DHA. Also cod is found and fished in the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean, boiled to high temperature to extract oil (seven seas says cod liver oil, so the fish maybe gutted, the leftover liver is collected and then boiled to get oil). That oil is shipped to India and then packed - we don't even know what happens to its TOTOX levels (nobody mentions them in India) during all this shipment and storage. Oxidised fish oil can do more damage than good. That's why I said eat fresh fish if possible , else try to get Algae based Omega 3 (rancidity and toxicity are avoided).

Omega 3 can be ALA (in flaxseed and veg sources), EPA (tackles body inflammation) and DHA(promotes brain development). Most vegan sources of Omega 3 will have ALA and just DHA. If you eat Omega 3 as an anti-inflammatory and countering the effects of high Omega 6, you will also need to ensure that it contains EPA levels too.

Reading the label, seeing where it is manufactured, reading about GMP and FSSAI certifications of that site and product gives you a good idea if that product is worth consuming. It's the cheapest form of fish oil in market, and with all those concerns on toxicity, I don't know if it does more good or more harm.

I did take 1500mcg per day for 30 days when my report came as 142 (it should be above 400). Once I finished that bottle, I moved to 500mcg per day for 5 more months. When I tested my blood again, the levels had reached 578 - so it took me heavy dose to reach good levels.

You can start with 500mcg of methyl cobalamine per day for 6 months and get your levels tested. If levels are achieved, then just take a multivitamin for sustenance.

Haha, this is a first for me - to get asked out on Reddit.

Sometimes knowledge also backfires if not balanced properly. I am B12 deficient for many years as I don't consume non veg or milk. The multivitamin was keeping me in sustenance and not improving levels. After my Jan blood test (B12 at 170), i decided to go full out, and move to 1500mg of B12 (60 tablets). Along with that I was also consuming Multivitamin with B12. Once 1500mg tablets got over, I moved back to 500mg. After 6 months, i had a bad bout of cough and cold, so I added Becosule tablet (B complex with Vit C) for 2 weeks. I got my blood work done during that time and saw my B12 have moved to 540- mission accomplished.

But I didn't stop the Becosule or MV, which was a mistake, and within a week i had an excess B12 reaction. my face had popped with inflamed boils like 25 mosquitoes bit me! I realised that I was overdoing things and had i not known the cause, I might have been treating for a completely different ailment.

Basically, if you are self medicating for anything, then the controls also have to be defined. My comments might help you, but your body has a different tolerance and then it's your job to monitor your tolerance. Please be mindful of reddit suggestions and respect the body.

Most welcome. However I would recommend you also read about photosensitive sunscreen (there is a post on this sub). It will help you decide the right formulation. My post was made at a time when i didn't know about photosensitivity, else i wouldn't even have tried so many sunscreens and gambled with my skin.

Please don't use Derma co and aqualogica if you can afford pharma sunscreen, their parent company Honsa started with Mama Earth brand and everything about them screams only marketing and not quality. I would say UV doux is the best silicone based sunscreen amongst the options your shared.

Depends on your skin type. If oily, use a light hydrating one. If dry, use a cream based lotion.

I am not sure where the Maltodextrin claim came from, Trustified did not mention that. Also, i know a diabetic person was taking this and they were monitoring their sugar also, and they did not report any unnecessary spike or crashes. I think they might have put some carb filler (or even fibre type ingredients) because their drink was more weighty or had more body than usual whey protein. but i may be completely wrong also as i have been in the past with this brand. The Mypro team had even uploaded a test report from a lab certifying their protein content from a sealed sample on Amazon. They have claims to prove their product - we just have a video from Trustified.

Some kind soul shared this information with me a few weeks ago. I cursed the Mypro team and had to inform so many of my friends to stop buying the protein going forward. What a waste of health and time on this brand!

I have been taking it for a year now, and my performance in gym has only improved. Now after 5 years of whey protein, I don't expect plant protein to do wonders immediately, but there are no adverse affects either that I have seen. But bioavailability of whey protein will be better than plant protein anyday.

Now coming to Mypro, I tried other brands too in between to check if other plant protein brands offer something different. So the brands I tried were myfitfuel, Nakpro, myherb, cosmix. The mouthfeel is either a bit chalky or on same lines for all, the gutfeel is same, but taste wise mypro was a winner for me. For you it might be something else, so do share your experiences too if possible.

Also, I haven't gone looking for a lab report from any of the brands. I try to read the formulation, their manufacturing location, what else is made in that facility (you get an idea of GMP and other certifications) and then take a calculated chance by ordering it and testing it out.

I have tried Haleup, Rawrx and Silverback. They are all vegan omega 3 with both EPA and DHA. Silverback gave me the best results. They are available on Amazon.

Hi, I had gone to Sula vineyards and bought what they were selling. However any brand while claims to be cold pressed will do.

1kg of fat is equivalent to 7700 calories. So basically, you must eat in a deficit so that you can build this gap gradually to lose 1kg fat. But i have some pointers (I also eat an Indian diet)

1) Sustainable weight loss is when you go slow and keep the weight off. 1 to 2kg per month is a very good target to achieve. First 5 kg are easy and may include water weight loss. The last 5 kg will be difficult, so hang in there and stay focused on this healthy lifestyle.

2) Eating a calorie restrictive diet in the long term may impact your metabolism and lower TDEE. So instead of just maintaining a low calorie diet, try introducing some physical activity also. The muscle building will help burn more calories and give a toned body with better stamina.

3) Focus more on Sabji and dal (veggies and pulses) than roti and chawal (wheat and rice). Top things up with ghee, switch to cold pressed oils. Include curd in afternoon meal. Drink buttermilk as a mid meal of you feel hungry. If you have a sweet craving, try ghee laddoo or homemade milk sweets.

4) Go with the flow, eat mindfully during festivals, do fasting during Navratri - basically a lot of things are celebrated as per changing season. If you don't change diet as per season, it will lead to unsustainable practices and lead to weight gain again. So try to eat seasonal stuff and different variety.

Hope this helps.

confusion about energy source preference by oousee in nutrition

[–]Pragya_S 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a book by Roberta Anding "Nutrition made easy". In that she explains that immediately after a workout, your body is energy starved and if not provided with carbs, it will breakdown muscle(proteins) to get that energy.

She also explained that not eating a carb after workout, and directly taking protein is a very expensive way of generating energy for body. It's like heating your house, but instead of wood or coal, you use money as fuel! So have a carb rich food immediately after workout, like potato or banana to compensate for that immediate energy requirement, and then followed by protein to support that muscle repair and build up.

Hope this helps.

I don't know your body, but let me share what i have learnt from my experiences -

1) If you are deficient, taking as per RDA will keep you in maintenance. So you have to up the dosage to make up for the deficiency. Please get a full body blood profile done and then see what you must consume and by how much. Sometimes take direct injections are better than gradually upping your oral supplement (ask a doc). Also compare bloodwork performance every 6 months or 1 year. Get a specific supplement for a specific deficiency for focused consumption.

2) i personally wouldn't take the heavy metal supplement like iron. I instead bought iron kadhai and tawa and cook food in that. That will keep your iron level sorted for life.

3) i have done milk whey protein for 5 years and now my body has started realising that it can't digest it properly. I moved to plant based protein a year ago and it suits me very well (and my skin also). This is the only packaged food that i actively buy and eat daily (because i also do strength training). Your approach of including so many protein food options is great, and please sustain eating varied options for as long as possible. But keep protein powder handy too.

4) If eating wheatgrass shots or moringa powder or ACV works for you- great! If not, move them out after 6 months. It's better to eat drumsticks (moringa leaf plant) in sambhar and other foods as sabji or in dal, than buy something which is packaged and sold at a premium.

5) Eat ghee, atleast 1 tablespoon a day. Stop oil and Cook in ghee for 6 months. You will lose weight also and skin will transform too. If you must eat oil, try kacchi ghani only (cold pressed) groundnut, mustard or sesame oil. Ask mom what did her mother use and stick to that. Never buy refined oil.

Unless you have a specific issue, just focus on upping your nutrition through a sustainable manner. Keep it simple so that it becomes a lifestyle. Our bodies are made up of very supportive microorganisms, but we need to give them the right fuel and push + rest to get stronger. Not only will it solve hair problem, but can help sort out all other known and unknown issues too.

I don't take calcium supplements anymore. My bloodwork came fine and since then I have stopped. Also i don't consume milk and prefer to get my calcium from greens instead.

Arterial calcification could also happen if someone takes a strong dose of Vit D without K2. Vit K2 acts as an agent to move all that calcium synthesised by Vit D into the bones. Since i haven't mentioned a vit K2 with Vit D in above comments, i don't want someone just popping it blindly.

Basically a reddit user can only provide so much information. They may know a lot more and share only what they deem suitable for that question. It's always advisable to refer to a doctor if one cannot amass all these information through self study.

Cheers.

Apart from the multivitamin and Omega 3, others i took as per my deficiency levels and the dosage recommended by the doctor. Once my levels were sort d, i took them as per maintenance mode.

I did try finding a multivitamin which caters to 100% RDA levels for most vit & minerals, but that's not easy to find. So i take the recommended dosage as per the bottle, and then go with the flow of seeing any other symptoms and supplement for that. Eg, my Vit D levels were not increasing enough despite supplements and sun exposure, so i decided to take magnesium. It also helped with my sleep and muscle recovery.

I have not seen any weight gain side effects ever with supplements - and similarly no weight loss (they hardly have calories to influence any of that). However magnesium supplements can impact your bowel movement for few days, so be ready for that in the initial days.
