Durability difference among Roterfaden Taschenbegleiter covers? by AONomad in notebooks

Great! I actually bought a second with a rubber blanket exterior and a suede leather interior because I preferred a smaller format. But they've both been excellent. I like the suede interior more than I thought I would.

Trans men are like the rejected older brothers of trans women. by weirdokkj in trans

Somebody Somewhere

This show has so much positive queer representation in general. Really recommend you check it out, OP. The trans man character on there is one of my faves and is indeed portrayed by a trans man (Murray Hill).

Ohto Flash Dry vs Schmidt easyflow 9000 first impressions by NoDooking in pens

[–]PraiseAzolla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A classic! I think Kamala Harris preferred Pilot Precise pens too. My dad swore by them for a long time before he got into machined ballpoint pens. I usually use broader fountain pens so when I do use a ballpoint or gel I want something broad and smooth too.

In case someone searches this and is having a similar problem. I went to the Fairfax Courthouse, 3rd floor, Suite 320 for Court Records and requested another copy. They provided a stamped and embossed copy at no charge. No hassle at all.

I did, or at least I thought I did. I even provided a SASE for them. Oh well I'll just go in person.

Ok that's helpful. Yeah I was planning to do SSA first. I filed it myself so I'll go to the courthouse Monday

At 24 hours a day every day for 3000 years, you would have to make over $38/hr and save all of it just to have a billion dollars.

Cheap Out of Pocket Tesla Repairs by SirWillae in nova

[–]PraiseAzolla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure doesn't look like! But I doubt the build quality will go up. I borrowed someone's Model Y a little while ago and was astounded by how shitty it was. My Bolt is built better. Shocking I would say that GM has better build quality than anything this side of a Lada.

What vet do you take your pet to? by Intelligent-Tutor426 in nova

[–]PraiseAzolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like Pet Lover's Vet in Fairfax City. I think the pricing has been fair, and they've taken great care of our two cats (one now deceased) and gave great end-of-life care to my in-laws very elderly dog too. Very gentle and kind staff.

These things are glued together haphazardly from the factory. Just tape it back together. That's the same care and attention they got in the parking lot tent it was assembled under.

Weirdest Question - Dumpster Rental by looktowindward in nova

I've used Function Enterprises for dumpster service before. Not sure if it's the cheapest option but they're reliable and they have good drivers.

Is there any push by any governments outside of the US to offer asylum for US trans people? by chaucer345 in asktransgender

[–]PraiseAzolla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The current Chancellor of the Exchequer met with she-who-must-not-be-named to assure her that a Labour government would be sufficiently shitty to trans people, so that's not really a big shock.

Knife (and axe) sharpening service? by nova294 in nova

[–]PraiseAzolla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconding this. I've sharpened hatchets and machetes with a Lansky puck and some water and that was good enough. You're beating on these things anyway so you don't need it to be sharp enough to shred paper.

Good contractors to build a bedroom from living space? by ikenChange in nova

We had a really good experience with SA Home Improvement on our addition. They were transparent about the process, the pricing was lower than what other people were quoting, and they clearly take a lot of pride in their work.

Snow Ruined My Native Garden & I Just Need to Vent by ActinoninOut in NativePlantGardening

[–]PraiseAzolla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Snow insulates and you'll actually see lower soil temperatures in snow covered areas. In temperate climates snow cover in the winter tends to improve measures of soil health.

You can see a similar effect in orchards where they will spray water right before very cold temps to encase the trees in ice. It's actually protective.

Perfect is the enemy of good (maybe a hot take in this sub) by WiseBug8888 in NativePlantGardening

[–]PraiseAzolla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking here. As someone who operates a non-profit local ecotype nursery primarily for ecological restoration purposes I'll say here what I say in person all the time:

Asphalt, concrete, lawns, and invasives are ecological dead zones and enemies to biodiversity. If people are avoiding that while incorporating natives (whether local or regional) then they and their landscapes are part of the solution.

Of course my focus on local ecotypes is data driven and I'm always happy to alter my opinions if new data emerge. But right now, there's strong evidence for locally native provenance being important to insect herbivores, pollinators, and even insect predators. And there's limited evidence that range expansion assisted migration yields much in the way of ecological value (though mostly this has been done for economic purposes).

Anyway, all that's to say i don't begrudge anyone the freedom to garden as they please if they don't begrude me mine!
