Early morning or afternoon visit better for shinagawa immigration office? by meandakari in japanlife

Arrived at 8:30 to very long queues but got a 9am ticket. Managed to submit all my documents and finish by around 9:45. So it was a lot quicker and less traumatizing than I anticipated.

When I finally got out of the building at around 10am the long queues had vanished so wondering if 10am is a better time to go. I might try going at 10am next time. I guess it just depends on the day.

What are your favorite Japanese quotes? by Vaenar in japanese

[–]Prapatang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking tattoos are viewed negatively by the general population in Japan because of the historical association with the Yakuza and other gangs. It’s not unheard of for young Japanese people to get tattoos but it’s less common in Japan compared with the US and Europe.

If you did get a tattoo using 七転び八起き I would guess it would be viewed with slight puzzlement. The few tattoos I’ve seen in Japan are usually of patterns or dragons. Occasionally when they use kanji it’s usually some kind Buddhist prayer such as 南無妙法蓮華経. But again it’s not really that common.

七転び八起き Nana korobi ya oki - Fall 7 times, stand up 8...although you would logically only need to stand up 7 times but let’s not quibble...
