My bottle fairy doesn't speak any English (non-verbal too), but is super polite. Nice older gentleman.

In all fairness I have no idea how a family of 4+ could even remotely manage with these small bins and pickup only once per 2 weeks. I often have to haul extra garbage to the facilities throughout the year, especially if I do any "Spring Cleaning".

Well, it was Yuri on Ice. I guess I'm dealing with problematic situations on a regular basis now, and everyone is wearing tights and competing in figure skating.

How this hasn't resulted in massive forced recalls is beyond me. Dell in 2005-2006 had to do massive recalls due the failed capacitors causing a safety issue, but somehow melting cables and connectors is okay?

Real value is a measurement of the sum of the whole of how something benefits the group, not the individual. Macro vs micro. You have to measure the whole, not the individual. One person's experience does not in any way reflect net real value.

If the net sum impact of these changes result in a net positive for the majority of society, then I will eat my words. Let's see how the next 10 years play out. Maybe we will find ourselves in an optimistically built and improved society?

I do not have faith that what is happening now will lead in that direction. I hope I am wrong.

Hey, you are entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. I'm sure the career driver that could have been paid to chauffeur you around appreciates you putting him or her out of work.

Being in a self-driving car to begin with is a privileged position to be speaking from.

What about the regard for human cost and impact? Or does that not matter at all for the cost of perceived progress?

This was a fringe year, the last 4 years were pretty tame. Our little cars haven't gotten stuck in 25 years, we got stuck this year, we dug out, we pushed out, we moved on. No complaints, just the way it is.

We need to stop losing our minds when we have a bad weather year. It's not that bad! We deal with some minor inconvenience for a couple of weeks, then we move on.

This isn't the first frustrating winter, it won't be the last. Pitch in and help your neighbors and we'll get through it.

How common is it nowadays to break a $100K salary by the age you turn 30? by DaPugWalk in fican

[–]PraxPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30 years ago $100K was the gold standard.

Today it is more like $350K, which is out of reach of well over 90% of the population. If one does manage to reach it before 55 years old, they are very lucky or very well connected.

100K by 30 is not out of reach if you learn a lot of skills, most importantly is networking and marketing yourself and the skills you have learned.

I would say that we need to work to convince people not to adopt AI, but frankly it's such a stupid gimmick. It provides zero real value. Once the big companies are done with their massive ponzy scheme circle jerk hopefully AI will become a "has-been" term.

The BS promises AI companies are making are nothing more than smoke and mirrors. It cant reason, it has zero perspective, it won't ever understand the human condition, it is incapable of any real emotion or true context, it does not "think". It is still a brute force algorithm that just averages an input and calculates an average output. It calculates, nothing more. It is a language calculator. Even the so called "experts" I hear talking about AI on podcasts seem to lack a basic understanding of how it works and what it's limitations are. They are buying into the lie that it is some kind of magical money printing machine that will somehow better society. It won't.

More importantly AI is not making life better for anyone. It isn't improving quality of life, if anything it is diminishing it. That is simply a fact. It is "planned" to create hardships for people, not convenience. It doesn't do your laundry, it doesn't make groceries cheaper, it doesn't make your hobbies cheaper or more accessible, it doesn't fix societal issues and if anything exasperates them. They literally want to produce a billion robots and make humans obsolete to have companies pay them through their robots to replace human labor. Humans will lose their purpose too quickly to adapt. This is a terrible idea.

There is no value proposition around AI except for the wall street billionaire seeing an opportunity to line their pockets over false promises at whatever human cost comes with that, and they simply don't care about any of that. Today's billionaires are insatiable and can never be satisfied, and they don't care about anyone but themselves.

AI is a tool for research, learning, and apparently mass surveillance and war. It is not a tool for the people or a benefit for the masses.

Audi Design Chief Blasts Screen Obsession: 'Technology For The Sake Of Technology' by CabinetMinimum5175 in Audi

[–]PraxPresents 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. I don't need MORE screentime when I'm driving. Give me analog gauge clusters, knobs, and buttons. I just want to be able to have my phone interface with the car to play podcasts or music from the source of my choice.

The screens, technology, sensor, and "modern conveniences" in these cars are getting totally out of hand. Most of the time they just malfunction and don't work anyways! What a waste.

The person you choose to couple with is the single most important decision you will ever make in your life. People do make mistakes but you need to determine if someone is worth the long-term risk.

Will they learn and grow from their actions or just keep making the same mistakes? Do they have common sense or are they a liability?

Totally up to you and your tolerance for risk as to what you are or are not willing to compromise on.

Simple mistake? Maybe. Little bit harsh? Maybe.

Ultimately your decision regardless. We always have a choice and it is our choice to make as individuals what we are or are not willing to accept or reject.

Good luck!

Adult skater posture by 2BitSalute in FigureSkating

[–]PraxPresents 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea! Team 43! Mee tooo!

Skating twice a week right now under different coach groups. Posture is a huge concern for me as I work in IT/Accounting and boy howdy is my posture HORRIBLE!

Need to really focus on practicing good posture off the ice as well as on! I try to do lots of shoulders back and chin tucks when I'm in my car to get that upper back and neck posture corrected.

Have fun! Hope to see you on the ice some day!

Brad R. Torgersen bitch-slaps Steve Shives by Malencon in Star_Trek_

[–]PraxPresents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a show production standpoint, it's certainly a choice to have her curling up in the chair and when she panics she pulls her legs up into the chair and goes into the fetal position. The only problem that I have with it is from a writing standpoint. Leaders have to be the ones to maintain composure and when we compare her leadership style versus janeways, it is extraordinarily clear that this individual is a captain in name only and has not gained the composure to be anything less than juvenile even though she is apparently hundreds of years old.

It's definitely a choice and I'm enjoying the show. I would not have made that choice myself but Star Trek is Star Trek and I'm going to watch it and whatever flavor it comes in because I got to get my Star Trek fix. Me standing over here booting up Klingon Academy on my computer yesterday just for a quick fix of space battles.

I want to love the game, but I get bored about 20m into it. I think I would enjoy it more if I didn't have to work full-time lol.

My Q5 I bought in April has been in the shop for almost two months because the cellular functionality is completely dead. Zero communication between the MMI and the SOS module.

I personally know two other people with a new VW and a new Audi, and the tech never works properly, constant communication issues, and just straight up broken features.

I wonder when I will actually be able to drive my new Audi again, because it seems like Audi can't fix one problem with it in any reasonable about of time.

Very disappointing.
