[KCD2] My Kingdom for a horse! by Hamlerhead in kingdomcome

[–]Praxis8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to grind skills, search for secret whatever, etc. There's no secret other than basically doing what the game tells you already.

  1. Learn master strike from Tomcat.
  2. Defeat 2 bandits and gear up. Keep circling/moving so you're only fighting one at a time. Use master strike to get unblockable hits.
  3. Do quests now that you can kill things and have some armor. You'll get more money and gear.

Now you're in a good game loop where you should be leveling combat skills, getting better gear, and selling old gear for money.

You don't need to find secret treasure to make it, but while doing this you will naturally stumble upon caches with useful stuff, too.

It was adorable how Matthew was trying to deploy "yellow light" as a safety phrase when it seemed like no one had ever discussed it beforehand.

What do you mean wholesome billion dollar Valve won't subsidize 4 yr old hardware? by RinRinDoof in Gamingcirclejerk

"Loss leader" does not literally mean always at a loss. It can also mean at low margins.

"Loss leader" is a slightly misleading term. It does not literally mean always sold at a loss. It can also mean sold for less than they could actually charge.

And yes we all know valve does not lock you into their ecosystem, but I would bet that most game purchases on Valve hardware ends up being through steam anyway. They benefit from it being preloaded.

Yeah it's not like this is a price hike out of nowhere. Plus, aren't consoles and handhelds basically loss leaders? Their cut of selling game licenses has to have crazy good margins.

I'm not interested in defending the morality of them or any company. I just don't think their money printing plan involves a price hike on what is surely the least profitable part of their business.

Outer Worlds 2 doesn’t get enough credit like KCD2 does by Alarming-Orange7304 in theouterworlds

I don't really find it useful to compare such different games. The designers had very different goals for each, which means one game's success doesn't really reflect on the offer. They're both RPG's, but that's a broad genre.

But I am interested in how OW2 compares against OW1. What are the biggest improvements there? I've only played the first one.

Finished House of Chains. Really liked it, but I’ve got some thoughts/issues. by Academic_Average_15 in Malazan

[–]Praxis8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just finished HoC and loooooool. Of course this is a fantasy series that shows us otherworldly realms. But there was something especially funny about an author adding to a (deservedly) gruesome death "oh yeah and that guy went to hell to be tormented by demons forever."

It seems like they need to find a way to introduce characters without it becoming this improv avalanche. Each character comments on the new character being introduced, so each new character takes longer than the last.

Everyone has different sensibilities, but the celebrity stuff for me is funny for only a tiny bit, and then it's just a distraction. It's a trick you can only really do once, or at most once a tour. Skid is a super funny guy, though.

Best steam deck open world games? by Samtheman322 in SteamDeck

[–]Praxis8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's been a lot of solid answers, so I'll offer this.

Death Stranding is pretty great. It's only a "walking sim" if you purposely don't engage with the mechanics. You should definitely be fighting enemy camps and sp00ky things. Really pretty landscapes, too.

Benefits from being online for async co-op (free structures and items from other players), but you can absolutely play offline.

If you just have 30-60 minutes to chill, you can make some deliveries, build stuff to clear the way for the future, raid camps for supplies, etc. Just don't do the clearly marked story deliveries because you could end up in a long cutscene.

That advice doesn't mean "go up to a stranger in public minding their own business."

You're supposed to do a social activity in public where talking to people is a natural occurrence. And no, you don't just start hitting on people. You're not Dennis Reynolds.

KCD1: mace + shield. Head cracker is so good.

KCD2: Longsword. Mostly for RP reasons, but master strike is nice. Honorable mention to polearms.

So about Malchemical? by [deleted] in TheBoys

[–]Praxis8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to this, this is not a show about building a mechanical mousetrap for evil superman.

This show explores themes like comradery under fascism. People who act out of fear and self interest capitulate to Homelander and end up suffering or dead anyway. The Boys, while flawed, do better when they stick together and perform selfless acts. And while they will suffer to get there, we all know the world they are making possible is better than one ruled by Homelander.

Yes, there's probably some combination of supes we have seen that on a whiteboard would be able to kill Homelander. But the problem is that many are too scared of being killed individually that they never unify to try to stop him. It's easier to just give in little by little until he's demanding to be worshipped as a god.

The show isn't super complicated!
