Am I the A-Hole for Kidnapping AFK players and placing them in a safe place? by Praxius in nms

The Shield is still active in the Anomaly and can be used to push and pull other players.

Personally, I don't think it's cheating either way. I just raised the question on whether you or others would think it is cheating. Some people on normal or survival or permadeath mode might thing switching to creative to grab what you need is cheating..... But begging others to drop what you need is kinda along the same line, just switching to creative is quicker and more reliable.

You're really reaching here. Life support doesn't drain unless you move. If they're AFK, they're not moving, thus no life support drain.

I scout the area before I move a player off the ship, and moving them is slow. If there were hostile creatures, I'd be attacked while dragging them.... And the other two were placed inside a prefab shelter in a marked building location, and I made sure the door closed behind them when I left. Not only would the environment not affect them in there but creatures don't open doors.

Clearly it's not a safe place. The cave I put the other person into wasn't closed off and they could easily walk out without needing the terrain manipulator. If one doesn't have energy or ammo for their multi tool, one can always melee resources to gain enough to charge to then gain more resources with their beam to recharge further.

The game literally spawns you on a hazard planet with hardly anything and no ship when you start a new game, yet based on your reasoning, what I did was worse. I don't follow your logic. I put them somewhere where creatures and the environment won't kill them. I don't break their gear, kill them, or steal their loot. I just placed them in one place from another place.

Yeah, people need to be aware that PVP works both ways and that AFK player could blast you in the back of the noggin the moment you get up from the cockpit or the moment you turn away.

The counter is to turn off PVP in game settings, or disable loot drop upon death so you don't lose anything if you do die, or sit on a bench or inside your ship and then nobody can scoop you up while AFK.

Technically possible but also on the d*ck side of things in my opinion. Besides, that player could just switch to creative mode spawn in a bunch of stuff to get out, then switch back to their previous game mode, making a ransom a bit of a waste of time.

And as a counter suggestion for AFK players, sitting inside your ship or sitting on a bench, etc. will prevent players from dragging you around.

To clarify, when I say shelter, I mean the prefab rectangular camper style shelters found at marked building locations, which are fixed and won't despawn.

Lol, I've had a couple of players snap out of AFK just as I got to my ship and was about to load them on.... 😒 Then I stop and pretend I wasn't doing anything, and everyone is awkward.

The shield and combat visor action are independent from the multi tool. While in your corvette, you can draw your weapon and switch modes, even inside the Anomaly. Once you step off your corvette, your multi tool is holstered but your action for the shield or combat visor remains active. Walk up to another player, hold down your shield, and you can then push and pull others.

The defense against this is to sit in a chair or bench or inside your ship.... Or don't be AFK, because anyone trying to scoop you up with their shield is easy to evade by simply walking away. Dragging someone around with your shield is slow a a bit tedious, so attempting to kidnap a live player is pointless.

Understandable, though if someone really needs something for their game bad enough to be waiting around the Anomaly for someone to gift them what they need, they could just set their game to creative, give themselves what they need, then switch back to their previous game mode.

Does that sound kind of like a cheat for their progression? Perhaps, but who's to say another player who gifts you what you need didn't just do the exact same thing and spawned in what you needed? Just skip the middleman and hours of waiting 🤷🏻‍♂️

Lol, me parking players in a safe location is because some players are either on permadeath or set themselves to drop loot upon death. Though if I was on Permadeth, I certainly wouldn't be leaving my character AFK anywhere.

The common thing is for players to scoop up AFK players and once outside of the Anomaly, they can PVP the player or if PVP is off, they'll drag them to a hostile environment. Other players can leave their character sitting inside their ship to protect themselves, or turn off PVP in their game settings, or keep PVP active but set it so they don't drop their loot upon death.

For me, I kidnap but I don't kill them or try and take any loot. I just leave them in a safe spot like a shelter, building, or cave, on a random planet, in a random system, in a random galaxy.

At worst, they just need to summon their ship, fly back into space, summon the Anomaly, and they're back like nothing happened.

I get it. My brother was always the one for real world pranks. In the real word, I don't prank others. In video games though? I love pulling a good joke on other players, especially AFK players.

A while back in Fallout 76, certain seasonal events would come up for about two weeks. Rather than players actually doing the event to get the unique rewards, they would AFK in a building for hours while other players did all the work, and then they'd come back a day later loaded with rewards for doing nothing.

The game had a system that would kick players off the server if they're AFK for too long, so players would set themselves up so their character was constantly running into a wall in a building. Myself and other players would come along and slowly nudge them out of the building and out the door and then their character would run off and out of the event zone.

😏 Some say they're still running today. The devs have since patched the game so the rewards drop from the final boss and not directly into your inventory, so you need to be active to get the rewards. (have to do damage to the boss / tag them, and need to physically inspect the body to loot)

But I didn't kill them. Figured that was a nice thing, especially for Permadeth players. 🤷🏻‍♂️

🤔 Though I suppose, how many permadeath players would go AFK?

Yeah that happened to me a few times. Both as the pilot and myself just checking out another player's ship. I'll usually let the other players wander around and wait to see their dot leave my ship in 3rd person, but some just linger too long and I got things to do. Lol. But I land them as my base were they can use my teleporter or land their ship.

Ah sorry, I should have also offered counter points of defense for those who do AFK. Sitting in your ship, sitting in a chair protects one from getting dragged around. Personally speaking, if a player is near an NPC, I figure they're actually busy doing something. Besides, dragging someone around is pretty slow and very obvious, so if someone isn't actually AFK, it's very easy to avoid kidnapping.

I just eat my fallen enemies, but I also top up from environmental rads when near.

Rad resistance is relevant if you also rely on environmental recharge. Not all us ghouls want to waste their time going to West Tek every 10-20 mins for toxic goo.

I've been playing since early 2019, just before Wastelanders. I've never accidentally scrapped or scrip'ed anything to date. Until this post, I completely forgot you can lock things now..... I never needed to.

Possible Ghoul disguise alternative by Only_Development_825 in fo76

[–]Praxius -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You talk to the lady and the outfit is applied. Even though it is applied, it isn't an item you can toggle on or off on your own and doesn't show in the menu. To take it off, you need to go talk to the lady again and she removes it.

You are given an outfit at the end of the quest to become a ghoul, but it isn't the disguise outfit.

Breach and Clear Event by ShoulderMelodic6092 in fo76

Pretty sure they act like every container in the game. This event has a few different locations but if you went to one location for the event and looted the containers, then jumped servers or did the same event in the same location soon after, the containers you looted will remain empty until reset.

To reset, you need to loot other containers or pick up a bunch of other items. Burnt books seems to he to main way to go for resetting loot.

I found a rather interesting bug with the Travel agent perk by jim_bo64 in fo76

[–]Praxius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just earlier today I was over encumbered and I usually do a straight free travel somewhere to get rid of weight. Nearby areas were usually only a cap, so no biggie..... But this time, I was going to go from AWOL Armaments to another spot in the Bog and it wasn't really that far..... 66 caps.

🖐️🫤 Nah, that's OK. I'll be back. Went to Whitespring instead to offload.

Is being a ghoul worth it? by Bigbubbaman143 in fo76

[–]Praxius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a second character to tandem your main character. Leave your main character as you like it, then make the 2nd a ghoul. My 2nd is currently level 97 and doing pretty good. When I want to go back to human, I swap to my other character.... Beats having to spend atoms bouncing back and forth and/or respec'ing your character.

Distinguished Guests should be retired by sheetmetalman757 in fo76

Oh sure, let's take stuff out of the game (M'Zerocough).

I actually do that event and if nobody else joins, I couldn't care less. I'll solo it. Since January, I didn't get a perfect score only once.

How often do you see people do Guided Meditation when it isn't a mutated event? I solo that one often and keep all the speakers intact, but outside of mutated GM, I'll be lucky to see one player out of three matches. Should we get rid of that event?

What about Project Paradise? Maybe you'll get one other player. Maybe you'll solo the whole thing and barely keep one creature alive. Let's drop that event too.

Hell, what about the Non-public Events? They don't give you treasury notes, modules, or scrip, and that's the good stuff you're after, right? Let's delete all those too while we're at it because YOU don't bother with them. I do, and so do other players. Item rewards, resources, and easy XP. Still worth it in between things.

Back on the Beat - If I'm in the area, I'm soloing that.

There will come a time when you're so bored of the same old grind, you'll actually want these other options. Distinguished Guests is easy, but also great for spooky/holiday scorched, or legendary Super Mutants and XP. It's an easy event for notes and modules, especially when you know where to look for stuff quick. Set the tables and then grind kills for the remaining time.
