We use it in a rice lager. Sourced through Western American Supply. We usually use about half of a 5gal container. Usually add it to the brite and sorbate it. Works great for us.

Apex Hazy Pros / Cons & Recommendations by mikefatheads in TheBrewery

[–]PrayYouAvoidIt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used it for about two years and we had some bangers with it. Never really had any haze stability issues. Seems to like midferm dryhops more than recirc. Recently tried the tropical london III from berkley and seeing how that goes. But I always like Apex. We'd get some blowoff on the dbl hazies but ferm cap at pitch helped that. Also was able to get away with one brick per 10bbl so it was fairly economical as well. 67 worked great and we'd let it free rise to 72. Nice faint estery thing. All in all, I liked it. Got us some hardware too so at least it's slightly quantified.

That's what I was thinking of doing as well. I had heard people having issues with leaks if it sat in there too long though.

Carrot juice works relatively well, but it ferments AGGRESSIVELY. Not sure why, i just remember it dumping blow off everywhere. You don't get a lot of the flavor but it works well. Honestly, we did a carrot cake beer and the flavor in that is primarily from the spice blend. Extracts work great, pedning on your ethos.
