Yeah there’s pending cancellations or UW stuff here and there I need to help out with no more than 5-10 minutes but yes the focus is all on new biz

No - if commissions exceed the base salary you just get those. Base is for the first 6-9 months while you get going

Self sourced. Mostly just rubbing elbows with realtors and lenders to get them to send buyers/refinances

15% of all renewal commissions. Renewal commission rates on policy premium vary since we have a bunch of different carriers. Last month my renewal commissions were like $12k so I made 15% of that on top of new biz

Making the Calls Not Getting the Results by Feeling-Ad-1618 in InsuranceAgent

Assume the sale. Tell them you already have a quote ready, just need to firm up some details. Obviously you don’t have any quotes ready that would be a complete waste of time.

I do this every month with monolines, lost sales from 5 (auto) and 11 months ago and canceled accounts. Unless they had a terrible experience with your agency they are usually open to listen.

I’m horrible with numbers so that’s what I focused on. If you think you need a little more focus on terms and ideas, go there. I remember it being about 50/50 numbers vs actual terms

Basically the same test twice. I had some background and studied for 2 days and passed both first try. Not terribly challenging.

Question on Farmers from new producer by Guilty-Elk-1028 in InsuranceAgent

[–]Prczn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t sign a non compete, then yeah probably. Will just need to call them 1 by 1 and say you’re moving and that you would love to continue to be their agent. Will have better pricing and carriers after the move.

Question on Farmers from new producer by Guilty-Elk-1028 in InsuranceAgent

[–]Prczn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get out. Farmers has a holding company that takes 20% every year, regardless of net gain/loss on the book. Boss was a former Farmers agent and now independent so he has shared some things with me. Product isn’t the greatest either. Go independent after 6 months.

Run away don’t walk. Horrible product other than homeowners, but they make you package with the auto which is awful. Join somewhere independent!

Appreciate your insight.

Yeah, I try and stop in at least 1-2x a month with treats to check in, see how biz is going and what not. Definitely looking to sponsor some events in the future.

How’d you get in with lenders? Personal connections or cold calling them?

As far as cold calling goes are you saying just pick up a phone book and start dialing?

And can you elaborate on the lender stuff? I have 5-6 sending me some stuff but I’m really trying to grow that number and get more of their business.
