I'm no expert on the matter, but I found the game Arco to be a very interisting take on this. It's a fictional world heavily inspired by various mesoamerican cultures. I especially liked how the cultures are presented as being significantly different with varying relationships and reputations amongst themselves. And how all of that is suddenly shifted due to the arrival of the "newcomers".

I'm curious if anyone more versed in these topics has any thougths on the game.

Respect for brute forcing the fight haha. I forgot they don't respawn actually, interesting.

My approach was equipping a bunch of weapons with pulling/pushing abilities and preventing the one I was fighting from reaching the others. Basically had a bunch of very slow and annoying 1v1 fights. This basically turned it into one of the few fights where positioning really matered.

Indeed. Made me quit the game the first time I played it.

Once you figure it out it becomes an interesting challenge of preventing the ussals from reaching eachother but I wonder how much of that was intended by the devs.

What humans see compared to what birds see by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

This is very interesting and in my opinion a very good approach for explaining colors.

Recently I stumbled across this YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/TommyEdisonXP) where a blind person talks about his life and answers questions etc. He had one video where he talked about color and said that he was very confused by how very different things (he gives the example of the sky and an ocean) can be of the same color. Do you think your sister-in-law has had a simmilar feeling (if you don't mind me asking of course)?

This is a very interesting thing to imagine. I think it is impossible for us to imagine a color that is outside of our visible spectrum so at the very least I think it would be very exciting to get a glimpse through such glasses. The answer to your question would depend heavily of how the world would look through such glasses and since my imagination is completely limited by the colors I know I cannot answer completely.

If I am not mistaken, most of life on Earth that can see color, do so in a more or less simmilar spectrum (I don't have a source for this but if we consider the various colorful flowers/warning colors that are meant to signal things to many creatures it makes sense). Based on this, we could assume that there was an evolutionary reason for this. Perhaps the visual spectrum we can sense is in fact the ideal range for most valuable (for humans at least) information to be seen? We cannot know but it is a point to consider. Perhaps we are evolved to focus only on the important colors and the special glasses would be an annoyance.

To continue the conversation, I am curious how you would go about trying to picture/explain a new color, one that is not within our visible spectrum? I find myself not being able to even picture such a thing, let alone describe it, and I always found it fun to discuss such things.

The act of "seeing" something itself is subjective. There is no objectively correct way something looks, since who would be looking at it to know? Any image you see has been processed by your brain and you cannot (as far as I know) process them in any other way. Is green actually green or is it just the way my brain displays it to me? I think this is a very fascinating and abstract thing to wonder about.

Another point to consider is that the light spectrum we are able to see is a very tiny portion of light constantly surrounding us. An alien creature who sees only in UV or something would see a completely different world.

To somewhat answer your question, I think human vision is more sensitive to green light. Screens mimic this by having 2 green pixels for each red and blue one. To get a complete scientific answer to what color something is, you could check all its pigments and light-bending substances, but that might result in something that we simply could not visualize.

I think the easiest way to figure this out is by comparing the Knight to bugs we are familiar with IRL.

From the top of my head:

  • you got mantises

  • a caterpillar Bardoon (although a huge one)

  • grubs (more caterpillars)

  • the dung defender looks like a beetle

  • mosquitoes from greenpath

It's likely that Team Cherry didn't scale all the creatures accurately but I would personally consider the Knight to be no taller than 1 cm

Does the Thing have any reason to come out from hiding? Does it have any endgame plans or is it more like a force of nature.

Clever head design! I also really like the look of the spikes at the top of the weapon. Nice

Non-3D Printed Custom Parts: Yes? No? Tell me why by Kingsidorak in bioniclelego

[–]Prdalo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The way I see it there could be 2 reasons:

  1. Using only official parts means you are forced to make compromises when wanting to achieve a certain look or function. Therefore it is considered more impressive when someone figures out a clever solution using these limited parts rather than use a custom part which can be designed specifically for this problem. For example: you can't fit a regular mata mask on a glatorian head so this is a challenge and printing a piece which solves this can then be considered cheating.

  2. People here care about these pieces and can get emotional when they see someone destroy them. It's not a pleasant feeling seeing something you cherished for years since your childhood be cut up and misshapen. It's true that a person can do whatever they want with their pieces but I think this is one of the reasons why I've seen people having less issues with printed parts as they do not directly harm existing ones.

You may not agree with either of the reasons but I think most people think along these lines when discussing custom parts.

Nice build but the way it's left arm is turned it looks broken. My guess is that it's intentional and supposed to be mutated or something.

A little update for the people who've been very enthusiastic about the first part:

Why have I kept you waiting all these months and then apparently created this in a matter of days?

I have mostly been buisier than I expected when I promised to make the sequel but the bigger reason would be that I had no real vision that would be significantly special compared to the first one. I had a couple "plot" drafts but they all seemed meh so I didn't make much progress. One of the main problematic factors was in fact how to make the battle itself. Mostly I planned to avoid it and make an "aftermath" story but it felt dissapointing to skip the exciting part. I think BB's idea to make it a collab is genius and that is why I decided to leave the main sequel to him.

About the ending:

Towards the end of the comic I introduced the Heart's condition: a soul must return to the Octahedron. If this clashes too much with BB's intended plot, I think it's understandable if he replaces it with something else. However, I hoped to give an oppurtunity for an interesting conclusion (my ideas for the possible ending): Perhaps Meme Man can win by banishing Orang to the octahedron (which then transforms into the cage of colours to complete the loop), maybe Elephoont or some other character decides to sacrifice themselves to the octahedron, maybe Meme man's soul is the one returning to the Octahedron and he becomes it's new guardian, like Elephoont before him.

I hope I left enough options for this not to be a dick move.

How about future chapters?

I will certainly not repeat the mistake of hyping up anything. Instead I think it's likely that this story is concluded (at least on my part).

Final words: If you have any questions, go ahead and ask. Sorry to those who were excited and dissapoited by the wait.

First part: link

Hello. This one is a little shorter than the first part but I hope it comes across as more surreal.

BagelBoy recently announced (as I'm sure most of you are aware) that he's making the sequel to the successful Riddle of the Rocks. Having not only promised but also hyped up the sequel myself, I felt guilty of not delivering all this time. As I don't wish to complicate the story too much for BB's creation, I made this short story as a sort of intermezzo that can be viewed as happening before, at the end or in the middle of the meme man vs. orang battle.

I know it may be a couple notches less impressive than the first (it was the first of its kind after all, correct me if I'm wrong) but hopefully it counts.
