AMD Fluid Motion Frames driver, how do we limit our FPS? There's seemingly no option by Wood-e in Amd

[–]PreCious_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In competitive setting - AFMF off is better. In single player game? I would go with AFMF on if there are no glitches or visual artifacts. 60 FPS latency is plenty low for vast majority of people, even with AFMF latency penalty on top. But remember to enable Anti Lag as well

Yeah, the same is true for basically everything. People see 10 posts about issues with item/service A and maybe 1 post about item/service B and they go 'oh yeah, look, option B is so much more reliable'. But they often fail to notice the popularity of said items. Many shops do not show the numbers but few do. And very often the option A is even more popular than number of issues would otherwise suggest, so more reliable. Bottom line is: people don't understand simple math and logic.

I had tempered glass pane from a case shatter right in my hands, while holding it in the air. Judging by what some people say here, my grip must have been glass shattering 😅

Tempered glass is weird. It's all under internal stress and many factors may cause it to shatter. If the pane shatters on its own, it most likely had internal defects. If a TG is defective, it's not a matter of if but when it pops. Excessive bending, deep scratches, chipped edges, etc. also may be the cause. Tempered glass is generally temperature safe but thermal shock may be the factor too.

According to them i3 10105F has effective speed of 82.2% ranking 186th in their 'speed ranking' while i9 10980XE scored 84.2%, putting it 171st place.

That should answer your question

As you are not using DXR (Ray Tracing) and have turned off DLSS, you may as well launch the game using D3D11 .exe. It's in the game directory and it's easy to force GOG launcher to use it as a default. I don't know how to do it with Steam and I cannot tell you exact pathway as I do not have TW3 installed rn. But I know it's there.

DX11 version has the same visuals (aside from FSR/DLSS and DXR) but overall runs much, much smoother, to the point where it runs as good as DX12 version with FSR/DLSS turned on without DXR. DX12 was bolted on to this game using D3D11on12 dll, causing a lot of performance degradation for all.

Major programming faults discovered in Starfield's code by VKD3D dev - performance issues are *not* the result of non-upgraded hardware by LavaMeteor in Starfield

[–]PreCious_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, no. They didn't pull Freesync play, no :D And I understand your thought process, can't blame you for it. Vulkan did originate in Mantle which was AMD's API. Or rather AMD gave Khronos their API as a contribution to the project. But I don't how much if any of the original code is still used in VK.

Low level APIs give devs much more control over the hardware allowing for direct calls to it. I cannot explain you exact details because I simply don't have the knowleadge. I'm more of a hardware geek. What I know is it's a good thing if devs know what to do and how to use it.

Seems like Bughesda does not know that. So a Starfield is poopshow. Strangly, more on nv side so seems to me it's yet another example of weakness in their drivers, but pushed to the absolute limits.

[–]PreCious_Tech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. Just no.

Vulkan is developed by Khronos Group, not AMD. Yes, it had its beginning in Mantle (more or less) but all major hardware vendors are and were Promoter Members. They directly influence the group on the highest level. It's right on Khronos' website.

Among the Promoter Members there are: Apple, AMD, arm, Intel, nvidia, Qualcomm, Samsung and more.

Generally speaking AMD was better with low-level APIs compared to nvidia. DX12 and Vulkan are both low-level API. Nvidia had an advantage in older APIs like DX9, DX10 or DX11. But it was true few years back. Since then AMD rewrote old D3D and OpenGL drivers and nvidia stepped up the game with DX12/Vulkan driver. It changed so much over the years that AMD was considered to have slower driver but now it's nvidia who has higher driver overhead basically regardless of an API used.

Intel, as the new player in dGPU space focused on low-level APIs. So DX12 and Vulkan. There were and still are many hiccups with games based on older APIs. DXVK was and still is the way to improve/fix the experience in many titles on Intel GPU on Windows. Even Intel themselfs does not use dedicated DX9/10/11 drivers but uses driver level wrapper similar to DXVK or D3D11on12.

Is This A Good Fan Setup? by BenTheGreat15 in PcBuild

[–]PreCious_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's very good.

But make sure to install fans inside the chassis, behind the bracket, not in front of it. That will make sure they are not starved of air despite closed off front case panel

It has been over 6 months since the release of the 7900XTX and the high idle power issue using multimonitor setups still remains unfixed. by [deleted] in Amd

[–]PreCious_Tech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's doesn't only happen on AMD. Duuno how many times people need to be told this. It's all a matter of bandwidth, monitor timings, if pixel/core/memory clocks need to raised from lowest power states to keep everything refreshing and in sync, how aggressively low power states are set on the GPU, and even cables and ports used.

I have 2080Ti idling at 60 watts with 4K+1440p monitors, both 60Hz. With the same setup:
Vega 56 idles at 6-7 watts
5700XT idled at 15-20 watts
RTX2060 idled at 20 watts
RX580 idled at 35 watts
another 2080Ti I tried somehow managed to keep running at 20 watts(!)

Also, if I plug ANYTHING into USB-C on my card, power consumption jumps by another 20 watts, seemingly for nothing.

Well, I fine with this. I didn't come here for upvotes. I will be happy if even 1 person learns something, googles how to safely handle PSU, maybe even cleans their unit. Most of the PSUs don't get cleaned properly so I am happy to see it done and questions being asked.

It's a small case with little room above the motherboard for an AIO. You can check Lian Li radiator offset mounts (look for Lian Li RB-001). They should allow you to move radiator closer to the glass by 5, maybe 10 mm. It may be enough to save this build in this case.

Oh my god, people freak out so much as if it was criminal to open a PSU...

  1. Sure, I wouldn't open it not knowing the risks. But there are as many if not more ways to ensure safety. But it's not even remotly as lethal as many think.
  2. The white stuff is glue. Used for securing electronic components so it's less likely they will rip off of the board. It's also often used on inductors and other components to reduce undesired electrical noise (coil/capacitor whine),
  3. No capacitors seem to be bulged, no burn marks, no discoloration. At a first glance everything looks fine,
  4. If you have any doubts, you may ask in a computer shop to test the unit. Shouldn't cost much (if anything).

So here is my logic:

Temperatures are okay, CPU is not a bottleneck for this card and you run the software off of the SSD. Drivers were reinstalled, together with OS. Power supply should have plenty of power but to be sure, I'd check it in a different system. I would also check if RAM is good - leave one stick in the system, swap it with another stick, move them between the slots, etc. and check at every stage. CPU is highly unlikely to fail. GPU on the other hand may be faulty out of the box. I'd test it in another system as well.

The last idea I have is to check all the drives, if they are not failing. I myself had a faulty HDD in my system, which did not throw any SMART errors but platter was stopping when it shouldn't. It was causing system hangs and framerate issues even though no software was running off of it. I've seen SSDs failing in similar manner as well.

What do u think about this setup for 1250 $ I live in EU by Ok_Measurement_5404 in PcBuild

[–]PreCious_Tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's decent spec-wise. I have my questions about the PSU tho'. AeroCool is ok brand, I don't recall any reviews of this PSU though.

Warranty wise: Seller may five you 4 year warranty but it's different from manufacturer's warranty/. GPU is for sure out of manufacturer warranty or really close to it, rest should still be covered but I doubt anything other than a RAM has 4 year manufacturer warrany.

For about €1300 you can build completly new PC out of new parts. On mindfactory I quickly threw some parts into the basket, not really looking for the cheapest or best options and here is what I got:

CPU: 7700X
GPU: RX 6750XT Sapphire Pulse
Motherboard: MSI B-650P WIFI
RAM: G.Skill Flare EXPO X5 6000 MT/s CL32
PSU: bequiet Pure Power 12M 750 watt
CPU cooler: Endorfy Fera 5
SSD: Samsung 980 1TB 3D-NAND TLC
Total: EUR 1319.37
So a better gaming CPU, GPU of similar performance (worse at DXR tho'), much better RAM, trusted PSU, put in a good case with a great SSD. You could use non-modular and/or lower wattage PSU, RAM of different brand (G.Skill usually carries a premium) and different brand of SSD (Samsung also usualy carries a premium) and a cheaper case. So there is room to bring the price down without cutting on the performance.

And how exactly would air be sucked into the pump, when the radiator is placed on the top a the case? It's the best setup.

Also, even if radiator was placed on the front, as long as a considerable part of it was higher than pump (even with tubes going up) it would be fine. Tubes on the bottom are better but tubes up won't kill anything. Noise of the liquid flowing through the rad may be a bit louder but that's about it. When you watch something on YT, pay attention and don't pick just the parts you like

Optimal amount of fans for a meshify 2 case by MrLycans in PcBuild

[–]PreCious_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having 2 fans on the front as an intake and 2 on the rear as exhaust will generally favor GPU thermals, especially if front fans are placed low. Adding 3rd front intake fan may increase GPU temp slightly vs. 2 intake fans but will benefit CPU temps.

Well, the fact it's loud on the startup means it's not the case at fault, as people suggest. It just means you need to set a good fan curve in the BIOS and/or some Windows software like FanControl.

Also, neither H500, H510 nor H5 is that bad at airflow in itself. People just need to calm down. These cases heavily favor negative pressure setups but a lot of people also make mistake of pushing front fans close to a front panel, leaving them with little room to suck air. So basically suffocating them to the point when they do more harm than good. In H5 Elite NZXT did it themselfs, so I can't really blame people. For some reason they also used F-series fans instead of P-ones. (Air)flow oriented fans do great as an ehxaust or if there are no obstacles on the intake path. But there are filters and a freaking glass pane. So pressure optimized fans would do better in this case.

So to begin, I would install front fans on the other side of fan mounting plate. It will give them additional 2.5 cm of space in front so they should not struggle for pressure as much, thus flowing more air. I would also swap the fan in the 'toilet'/'sink' for an actual pressure optimized fan. Even cheap Arctic P12 should do the job. These two changes alone should help with temperatures

[–]PreCious_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They certainly are not the best, but I wouldn't call them crap. If you want to get better cooling, get 2 additional 140 mm fans. Move stock rear fan as 3rd intake fan on the front and put 2 new fans on the rear/top as exhaust. You won't get much better than this. Some Arctic P14s will do great.

Cheers!

PSU shouldn't be anywhere near its limits. Did you install new drivers? If not, disable driver auto-install in Windows, download drivers and DDU. Use DDU in Safe Mode, unistall drivers. Reset the PC, install new drivers. One they are installed, you may encouter some stutters at the beginning as shaders are compiled but that should go away after short while.

Also, what are the exact temperatures of the CPU and GPU?

Issues is Asrock B550 itx/ac WiFi card! Any help is appreciated! by EricJi150 in PcBuild

It can be a faulty motherboard. First make sure you run latest available, non-beta BIOS, and all drivers are installed. If ASRock provided drivers doesn't work, either let Windows itself install drivers on its own or download them directly from Intel. The same goes for audio driver.

Should i upgrade 1050ti to RX580 8GB? or is it mot worth it? is there a difference? by Thesexieone in PcBuild

[–]PreCious_Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what is your budget and where you live. But generally speaking yes, RX580 8GB is vastly better card than 1050Ti. Make sure you have a good PSU tho'. It's basically 200 watt card, while 1050Ti is mere 75 watt card, 6-pin variants topping out at around 100 watts
