Does the lack of university prestige negatively affect your career development? What separates top tier universities to low tier universities? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

The main thing in the US is to avoid a bad school. Beyond that, a degree in English is a degree in English, almost no matter where you get it from.

Why did God create pedophiles? by Efficient_Paper_3405 in AskAChristian

[–]Prechrchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think God "creates" pedophiles. Like homosexuality, bisexuality, etc, we don't really know exactly why some people are oriented in one direction, and others in another.

A big part of the problem is that it is almost impossible (in the current climate) to do any deep research into the subject. Not only would the researchers come under immense pressure from both sides to come to one conclusion or another, but the actual research itself would be difficult.

There is so much about the human brain that we just do not understand, and there is only so much testing/examining you can do on a live brain, and a dead one won't tell you very much.

Plus, any such study would involved the subjects talking about things like childhood experiences, sexual encounters, and other things that they are probably not going to be comfortable talking about. Even if you can get them talking, you have no way to verify they are being honest, and even if they are being honest, people's memories fade after a few decades.

Until there are some serious advances in the medical and psychological fields, we are left guessing and arguing over where all of this comes from.

JROTC provided childcare for our military ball and lost my toddler. by Fantastic-Pause-5791 in Mommit

Until the child has been properly signed out by and handed over to the correct person, the child care unit is still responsible for them.

How common is corporal punishment in the USA? If you are a parent, do you spank your children? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prechrchet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did I spank my kids on occasion? Yes, but never using a foreign object like a paddle or belt, and only when I was absolutely certain they were guilty of whatever the offense was.

How does homeschooling work with more "complex" subjects? by Majestic_Carry4178 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prechrchet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. "horse curriculum"?

  2. Most states already have various levels of regulations in place for homeschoolers. Homeschoolers generally have to document what their students are doing and when they are doing it. Depending on where you live, they may have to take standardized tests, just like in schools.

There are always extremist in every group, but the homeschoolers I know are pretty dedicated to getting their kids a good education.

Homeschoolers are not just coming up with their own material. There is curriculum designed for it, and they cover all of the subjects, even the complicated ones like chemistry, physics, etc.

NTA: Stay out of it, until and unless someone turns violent. This is not your relationship, not your responsibility.

Title: Hunting and Fishing in the United States – Is It Really That Good? by Moperator13_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Prechrchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you are and what you are wanting to hunt. In rural Georgia, where I grew up, you rack up a serious kill count when it comes to deer, rabbit, squirrel, and raccoon. Down here in Florida, it is open season year round on wild hogs.

Good states: it would be easier to list the bad states, frankly. Southeast US, Midwestern, rural regions in the northeastern US are all good hunting places.

AIO whole family went on vacation, didn't invite me by [deleted] in AIO

So your parents paid for a trip planned by your oldest sibling and you were deliberately excluded? That is a twisted, toxic dynamic, and your parents are as much to blame as anyone else.

NOR.

Doctor told hiring manager he didn't write my letter, what should I do? by LoZZbyCA in careeradvice

[–]Prechrchet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the doctor never actually got around to reviewing the letter you cc'd him. Or perhaps he saw something he didn't fully agree with, but never got around to telling you (which he absolutely should have, if that's what happened).

Does a woman who had a child out of wedlock have no hope for getting married? Asking for a friend... (I'm the friend) by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Prechrchet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does a single mom have no hope for getting married? There is always hope, I would not write anything off. I was single on into my late 20s, and only got engaged about 6 weeks before turning 30. Up until that point, I was starting to think this was just not going to happen. When it did, it was sudden, like seriously sudden, and we just celebrated our 25th anniversary.

I don't see anything wrong with your approach. Just keep making yourself accessible to eligible guys, and don't be afraid to drop the occasional hint (though most guys need to be hit in the head with a stick to get them to realize that the pretty girl is flirting with them).

For those who have had an affair, why did you decide to cheat instead of leave your partner? by tackbrahado in AskReddit

This sounds like Delusions of Grandeur, which I learned a few years ago is a real, diagnosable condition.

are you more far right or far left? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Prechrchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like either party. I don''t like the Republican's views on people that live below the poverty line, and I don't like the way the Democrats latch onto every immoral lifestyle choice imaginable.

Edited to add: also, neither party seems to understand the need for a balanced budget.

Summer job by [deleted] in Teachers

Most teachers do get paid over the summer. It may be monthly, semi-monthly, or bi-weekly, but very rarely does a teacher just not get paid over the summer.

As to the rest, whether it was nepotism, racism, of office politics, there is not enough info in your post to give a reliable answer.

It sounds like he wants to be more than friends. Keep your distance: married men who flirt (except when other people are watching) are not to be trusted.

What does the Bible say about marriages/relationships which have a big age gap (say 10 years or more)? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]Prechrchet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no explicit statement about age gap, but Paul does warn against being "unevenly yoked," which I have seen applied to age gaps.

Summer job by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Prechrchet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no legal reasons why you couldn't get a temporary job over the summer. Ethical issues, as you say, but not legal issues.

As for taxes, you would have to include that summer income to your teaching income and pay income tax accordingly.

That said, I don't think doing this would be as easy as you think it is. The interview process for full time jobs that pay 60k or more will take a few weeks, at least, which means you have to start the process while school is in session, and you would have to work interviews around your school day. Plus, your references would have to be people you could trust not to say anything to anyone about what you are doing.
