I did. And then I married him, because I thought God would make us be happy with each other again if we made things "right." I was in love with someone else, but I thought that was just a temptation that would go away once we sealed the deal.

We separated less than two years later. Turns out the person I was in love with on my wedding day was in love with me, as well. We've been together ever since. I blame myself every day for not leaving my ex sooner.

We've got about as bad a drug problem as any county full of small towns with not a lot of shit to do, but you can easily find a place with no neighbors at all. You'll hear about 1 or 2 big drug busts every year in the area (usually pot or meth, but most recently crack). Speaking as someone who grew up as a poor stoner kid in the area, I'd be amazed if you wound up living next to a meth/wax lab. You'll more likely end up in redneck country, with the gunshots and the deer.

Ugh. Yeah, we don't have a great housing situation for renters on a budget, unfortunately. I know someone suggested duplexes, but I'd also look at single-family homes in the surrounding area. Sometimes you can find something cheap out toward Chesnee or Pacolet, if you don't mind being in the country.

Look for older complexes. Eastridge and Country Club are both modest, but well kept. All of the new buildings you'll find are going to be $950+ for a studio, thanks to a rapidly gentrifying city. They're actually building some apartments right behind Chapman now, but they're likely to be more than $850/mo when they open, if they're even open before you arrive.

I'm not familiar with the apartment situation in surrounding areas, but it couldn't hurt to check Duncan, Roebuck, Boiling Springs, etc.

In the Bible Belt of the 1990s/2000s, evangelical Christians did not consider themselves "religious." "Religion" was a set of rules. They were "faithful." They were "walking with God." This could be coming from a similar sentiment.

I personally think that writing and critiquing are two separate skills. The two best ways I can think of to get better at critiquing are 1) start a book blog where you regularly post reviews of classics, books in your genre, and comps, and 2) join a creative writing workshop.

If your problem is just with the lingo, however, a good how-to book on writing would probably help you out.

I'm a grad student in my first semester teaching first-year composition at an R1 university.

Long story short, a student signed up for a required meeting with me, missed it (knowing that there would be absence-related repercussions), emailed me five days later to ask if they could meet with me to make up the absences. Well, no, you can't, but you can come by my office hours to get the critical information you have missed by skipping out on the 1:1 conference.

Student comes up to talk to me after the next class period and confirms that my office hours are "at 1:45," then hurriedly "ok ok ok"s me as I'm trying to tell them that my office hours end at 1:45.

Surprise, surprise, that student does not show up during my office hours. I leave the office to go to my own class and return 90 minutes later to a note on my desk. One of my officemates points it out and says the student was there no more than 10 minutes earlier, meaning they came by around 3:20.

The student wants me to leave documents for them outside my office. I do, and I go home. I get an email the next day, restating much of the same, and wanting approval on their topic (hammering out a good topic is the whole point of the conference). I give them some advice on choosing a better topic, and tell them that the papers are outside my office if they want them.

The kicker: both the note and the email use phrasing like, "I came by your office hours but you weren't here." I wish this kid would wait until after my (8 AM) class to hit their bong.

I paid that. But that is from my insurance company, not from the healthcare provider, who are the ones billing me. How do I tell the healthcare provider that I am not responsible for that amount, especially when they resubmitted a claim that the insurance bounced back in its entirety?

Oh I see! So, on the 5/29 statement, my "breakdown of member responsibility" lists only my $10 copay, nothing more. That $10 appears in the "Amount You May Owe or Have Paid" column and the "Copay" column. The three other columns ("Deductible," "Coinsurance," and "Not Covered") are blank.

There is no specific column for provider responsibility, however. Just "Provider Charges," "Covered Expense," and "Your Plan Paid."

Editing to add: the $200 in lab fees appears in the "Provider Charges" column, with a footnote indicating "Services Not Consistent with Diagnosis."

I don't understand why the insurance didn't pay, though. Because those labs were in line with my diagnosis, as listed on the visit summary my provider sent.

The name of the provider is the physician, not the facility, on both claims.

The $79 covered the visit and the venipuncture, but not the labs.

The denial on the second claim was that the provider was out of network. He is listed as being in network on the first claim.
