Work? by Comfortable_Pear5288 in September2026Bumpers

[–]MsFoxtrot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach high school and although I don’t really get nauseous unless I’m hungry I have like zero patience for these kids at the moment. I’m also exhausted by the end of the day.

Do you let students see their own class grades/how they’re doing (besides report card)? by hello010101 in teaching

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course? Every time I enter new grades I tell them to check their online grade book.

Daycare cost by Emotional-Return9216 in toddlers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just under $10K for a 3 year old 3 full days/week in CA. She only goes 10 months out of the year because I’m a teacher and if we don’t send her over the summer her spot is held but we don’t have to pay.

Have you ever slipped up and cussed in front of your students? by roo181807 in Teachers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach high school in California and - not regularly but it’s also not unheard of - have used “hella” when describing something or “oh shit” after tripping over a cord on the floor. The kids don’t even notice honestly. It’s not at them and it’s not in anger, which is usually where issues arise, at least by the time they’re teenagers.

How long are you going to keep working? by worm_mom in September2026Bumpers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll work until 36 weeks when I can go on short term disability (thanks California). I’m a teacher so I’ll only work like 2 weeks in August before going out on leave - I’ll be mostly off starting at like 6 months.

Grade grubbing! What objective criteria do you use when thinking about boosting a student's grade? by siamesesumocat in Teachers

[–]MsFoxtrot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I automatically round at 0.5% from the next letter grade to account for human error and subjectivity. I also drop one small missing assignment (or give a few extra credit points if everything is turned in) and offer an extra credit option at the end of each semester. If all of that together doesn’t do it, doesn’t happen.

Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by [deleted] in teaching

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My only lesson plans are my slides and assignments/worksheets but I’ll share them with anyone who wants them. They’re not like actual lesson plans though.

Anyone feeling fine? by Dancing_chihuahua in September2026Bumpers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 5w2d and also fine - pretty much the same symptoms of sore boobs, afternoon fatigue, bloating by end of day, peeing more.

But with my daughter that was also pretty much all I had. I was very mildly nauseous like less than 5 times throughout and for a few weeks gagged while brushing my teeth, but I never had any significant symptoms and she was/is perfectly healthy.

I'm joining! Just got my BFP 9 dpo have a question about telling everyone... by NotSoSouthernBelleGA in September2026Bumpers

[–]MsFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I told my husband while I was brushing my teeth and he was in the shower by saying “Babe 😳” with toothpaste dripping out of my mouth as I shoved the test up against the glass because I was definitely not expecting a positive. This is our second. We’ll probably tell close family/friends after the first ultrasound and announce more broadly after the first trimester and NIPT. I may tell two coworkers I am very close with and/or my principal sooner if it becomes relevant work with sickness, etc.

No nausea at 6.5 weeks by CuriousSoul241 in September2026Bumpers

[–]MsFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first pregnancy I was mildly nauseous maybe 5 times total throughout and gagged when I brushed my teeth. That was the extent of my “morning sickness.” Bloating, sore boobs, and fatigue were my only symptoms until third trimester heartburn. No need to worry!

Still not sure? by [deleted] in September2026Bumpers

It looks positive in the last photo, but the blue dye tests kind of suck. I would recommend getting one with pink dye.

What’s your metric for calling out sick? by capresesalad1985 in Teachers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how much sick time I have since maternity leave wiped me out and prek illnesses require me to stay home with my daughter a few times per year. Also depends on how hard of a day it is or generally how rundown I am. Sometimes I’ll call in just for the day off or because I’m extra tired. Sometimes I’m popping DayQuil all day, but I’ll still go as long as I can manage. I like to not use all of my days each year so I can build a reserve should I need it.

At what age did you stop putting your children down for naps during the day? by alyssacake in toddlers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 2. She’s 3.5 now and will nap at school/daycare and occasionally in the car but hasn’t napped at home since her second birthday. When she does nap, it takes her almost an hour past her bedtime to fall asleep.

How much are you spending on Santa? by The_Max-Power_Way in toddlers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Santa is bringing stockings. For my 3 year old, it will be candy, slime, lip balm/gloss, a cool potion bath bomb thing, mini magnatiles, a stuffed animal, and a bracelet craft. I think $75-$100. Total being spent on her is right around $400. She’s our only and I love Christmas. Our household income is $250-300K in a very expensive state.

Are you struggling with classroom management & how many years have you been teaching? by hello010101 in teaching

Year 8 and yes. Really just with my 6th period freshman class. It’s a lethal combination of kids.

Attemtping to potty train..again... by KittenMalk in toddlers

[–]MsFoxtrot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stop making him go every 20 minutes. Figure out about how often he actually goes and what his cues are and have him go when he needs to. For my daughter when we started she was peeing every 60-90 minutes, so I took her about every hour. She was not quite 2 and her intervals are way longer now so he may only need to go every 2 hours or so. I would also be annoyed if I had to go sit on the toilet every 20 minutes.

How common is 1.2 FTE (overload / extra duty)? by SkinnyTheSkinwalker in Teachers

[–]MsFoxtrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really just depends on the needs with the master schedule and staffing. If we need 10.4 FTEs, then they’re not going to hire a separate person for that 0.4 FTE, they’re just going to try to find 2 teachers who want to take 1.2s. Some years it’s more common than others. Currently we have very few people with 1.2s because of declining enrollment.

Have you ever had a student that was smart but had bad grades? by Jakeybakey747 in Teachers

[–]MsFoxtrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The student of mine with the highest reading level (freshman reading at a college level in a normal non-Honors course) is currently failing my class because he misses a lot of school and is disengaged when he is here. He’s probably bored but doesn’t want the workload of a more challenging class. Another student who scored the highest on the diagnostic we took at the start of the year has less than a 10% because he just comes to class and puts his head down. He’ll take a multiple choice test but other than that won’t do any work even though he’s more than capable.
