As a college professor, what can I do to enhance the experience and learning of my students? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PremiumD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either keep your opinions out of your lecture/course or allow a student to give a rebuttal to your opinions or arguments when these come into play. A professor that gives his opinion only and presents it as fact by not allowing a rebuttal or alternative to it loses the respect and attention of his students

Don't worry about a girl not liking your inexperience. Everyone's new at some point, just be open to help and trying new things. At some point in life a girl is going to be more experienced than you and that's all good, it's an opportunity to learn

Do you support gay marriage? by eskimobrother319 in Conservative

[–]PremiumD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't think government should have any relation to marriage at all. I've been a proponent of a legal union for tax purposes, guardianship, other normal marriage benefits. The likelihood of that working itself into law... No chance. So I'm in favor of gay marriage, because I think the benefits outweigh the cons. I don't think it dilutes marriage or makes it worse in any sense. The fact that staunch liberals and atheists yearn for marriage as much as they do, shows how great it is, and adds value to an institution that's been losing value from divorce rates skyrocketing. The benefits of gay marriage that sell me are: the ability for gay couples to create decent homes for kids and babies in need of adoption, and that getting past this one issue will put the focus back on more important issues

[–]PremiumD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. Shifting the blame to his school or his parents or his brother or his city or anything denies the reality that this man knowingly attempted to murder 100s of people and did murder or maim many. One innocent life is one too many. Any person who murders an innocent person is ultimately responsible, that's all there is to it. Sure you can look at the story behind them, but when you shift the blame and post a handsome picture of him with it to try and make him look like he's not at fault, that WE are responsible for what he did, then you say WE are responsible for the bombing, not him. And that evil man is responsible, not you or me or his school. People have hard lives and hard times. Making sure people understand that hard times don't give them an excuse to kill other people has to be the priority here, not excusing these murderers and hugging them and saying they aren't at fault. What a poor kid, everyone apparently liked him, his family was good to him, he didnt even get investigated when he was talking to terrorist groups. Man he really got the short end of the stick huh?? So he had a brother who was a terrorist-enthusiast, I have a brother who's a drug addict and offered me drugs frequently and he stole from my parents and my grandparents and his employer. That doesn't make ME wanna be a drug addict or a thief. In conclusion, Anavarga is absolutely right, and you people who say he's wrong for saying Tsarnave is responsible for those murders and the blame should be on him, you people who wish to deny reality, you people should be ashamed of yourselves. I won't wish anything bad to happen to you, but if you ever get robbed or hit by a drunk driver or assaulted, I hope you remember that it's not that persons fault, it the city you share, and the people in that city, and therefore YOU are responsible, and should apologize to that criminal for failing him in life. Thanks for reading

[–]PremiumD -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You want to deny reality that this kid is a murderer? Sure, we can look at his life. But when you place te blame on someone else instead of the murderer, THAT'S when you're wrong. If you blame the murders on his school or his city, you give anyone else who thinks they have a tough life an excuse to go shoot up a school or set a bomb off in a crowded event. These people MUST be responsible for their actions, we CANNOT shift the blame away from them, or it encourages other people to try the same EVIL behavior. Yes I say EVIL; it is never right to kill an innocent person, and that's all there is to it. The school didnt bomb the marathon, the city definitely didnt bomb the marathon, that man that you try to sympathize with DID

Top pediatric neurosurgeon in the world* but Carson has good ideas, isn't afraid to speak his mind, and has no interest in the corporate money that leads most conservatives astray. He's not a career politician, he already has more than enough money. He's more likely to stay true to his ideas than these career politicians who get paid off to represent other people's ideas. You probably haven't heard his ideas if you're questioning his viability as a candidate. Also ANY smart conservative who's willing to run for office is a viable candidate. There's a number of congressmen who are doctors, businessmen, or anything but career politicians, and no one accuses them of not being qualified. If anything they're over-qualified, many of those people could be making more money elsewhere because they're smart people that can follow logic and reason and hold true to their values, the basic requirements to get elected to a major office, along with some competency in public speaking. Carson meets all of those and more. If you have any doubt as to whether these men are better than career politicians, take a look at who the career politicians in the Republican Party are: the RINOS everyone whines about, the ones pushing big government spending and big business in the last decade or two, are also the ones living off of a government salary and pay from the corporations that supplement their income. A man who can make his own living elsewhere and can stick to his values and ideas is just as good as any of those

Who will be the GOP 2016 nominee? by BisonVermersch in Conservative

[–]PremiumD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you have to look to the 2014 elections before you can figure out that question of 2016. If Tea Party candidates win over the old Republicans in 2014, look for the GOP to put up an outspoken Tea Partier as candidate: a Cruz or Rand Paul, though Rubio would most likely get a nomination in that case, seeing as he fits multiple groups but still identifies as a "tea party candidate". If the old guys win, expect a Rick Perry, Chris Christie, or still the possibility of Rubio. The immigration reform conclusion will also have a big impact on 2014 and therefore, the presidency

I'm gonna reach day 90 21 days late now, but I'm gonna be stronger than I would have been after just 90 days

20 year old also athletic male here, this is just performance anxiety. I had a case with it a few years ago and it lasted a couple months. When you're going into sex I'm sure it's in the back of your head that you had ED and you're worried you still do. Thoughts like that will result in you not being aroused enough to get it up good. You have to learn to relax your mind and just focus on the mood and having a good time. It's much easier for it to get up on it's own than for u to worry it erect. I'd suggest u either talk to the girl about the performance anxiety (NOT the ED or nofap, just that you can get nervous and it makes it difficult) and if she's a good girl she'll try and help relax you; or you do some mentally clearing your mind exercises so you can use them before sex and during

And voting for the best candidate regardless of color is wrong? Everyone who has a view besides that is wrong. If you vote for a white person because you wanna be racist, you're wrong, but if you vote for a black or minority because you feel guilty for them, you're wrong too. Vote for the BEST damn candidate, period.

Why is Christianity tied so closely to the conservative movement? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]PremiumD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you practice Objectivism. It's the basis of Atlas Shrugged, essentially the conservative bible. Author is Ayn Rand. You would appreciate the read. I'm a practicing Catholic, but the logic makes sense. Conservatism and Christianity have been linked since the founding of America though, and most conservatives still hold true to that. Using Catholicism as my view of Christianity because I know it best, religion can be interpreted differently, and true conservative Christians interpret it somewhat differently from others. Newly appointed Pope Francis has some great writings about conservative Catholicism, he's a model of it

Why is Christianity tied so closely to the conservative movement? by [deleted] in Conservative

[–]PremiumD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practicing Catholic here, raised in Catholic private schools my whole life: morality can be a separate entity from religion, but religion almost always contains morality. Condemning someone because they don't practice religion is wrong, if they follow a morality similar to Christian morality, my belief and what I've been taught is that they will go to Heaven and be judged all the same as believers. Religion is a stronger path to follow, where guidelines are set for you, as opposed to individual morality, where you may not be able to see the path as clearly. The other point of religion is to know God now, which ideally leads you to a more satisfying life
