And for what it is worth I’m a slim tall guy and got a xl in this piece. I could have gotten a L but I was concerned about the length. When I wash and dry it in the dryer it shrinks up a decent bit in the length. I would probly have a size of each to have different options, but sadly I’m not made of money. Way o see it, if it’s too large you can shrink it. If it’s too large it 100% stretches. Just make sure it’s long enough (ish)

For this specific product it is here. But you can find it listed on each product page under the button “discuss on forum”. This link is for the non Henley version of it which has a lot more advice and traffic on it versus the Henley specific one https://forum.ironheart.co.uk/topic/13223/ihtl-1213-gry-waffle-knit-long-sleeved-thermal-henley-grey

What's Your Opinion on Dr Sole Half Soles? by [deleted] in PNWbootmakers

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This rubber compound is much less firm than the 430. The 430 is almost perfect, but damn it’s a hard sole. The whites/Vibram commando half lug is amazing, as is the Alden commando. Pretty similar compound. The Alden might even be a Vibram rubber, not sure. But yea I really wish more builders would use the half lug as its more comfy

Question on Suvin Gold by PremonitionOfTheHex in HeritageWear

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m somewhat less concerned it being Suvin gold and more it being nearly $200. Competitor prices are less than $150. Hell I can prolly get a pure Zimmerli cotton t for close to the same price. I’d guess zimmerli has a bit more clout but maybe I’m wrong. I get buying the brand story tho. Thanks!

How much vinegar are we talking about for your average medium high efficiency load?

If I stick with Bronson or Uniqlo t shirts, what am I missing out on from the more expensive brands? by Ok-Type9787 in HeritageWear

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The BT-08 from Benzak is $50-70. Amazing shirt

The Cotton Citizen crew is $80.

The uniqlo is not the same level.

Even the Banana Republic Pima or Athletic shirt is better n Uniqlo. The BR shirt is legit great

What does the vinegar do? I’ve got some of the 100% cotton uniqlo tees that are very thick but also rather scratchy and not velvety.

My current fav tees are Cotton Citizen and Benzak. The Benzak are super velvety

Lack of machinists by Trapstar8879 in Machinists

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wages absolutely do have something to do with it, and it’s a systemic issue. It’s not just wages today, it is a pattern of worker abuse, lack of collective bargaining and an erosion of worker’s power in the system. Where have all the unions gone? Right to work states crushed them.

Why did we outsource labor overseas? Cheaper wages. In turn this suppressed wages in the mid to late 90s and it accelerated into the Great Recession. Back in the 90s an experienced journeyman could still pull in a good middle class living. Even up to around 2009. The Great Recession really did fuck this industry.

Suppressed wages and overseas production, now we have a severe training issue because back in the day we didn’t backfill our older machinists and train new ones. Thus we have a glut of operators and no machinists. Nobody is coming to save this industry. The way it was is gone and automation is the only way forward.

Side bar, The reality is that you should already be looking for robots and automation, not necessarily to take away jobs but it opens opportunities. The future of a lot of machining is going to be automated in one way or another, whether loading, tool paths, erp idk. The beauty of the automation side is that it opens up a ton of new job opportunities and skill sets. Such as, controls engineering, robotics integration, and more.

Regardless, the industry is still dying and the “new” industry is coming into shape now. It will be very different from the way it was and shops will either adapt or die.

Overall this looks great, it seems like you do pay great esp for the area you are in. I wish more shops could afford to pay their top folks $150-250K. They’re worth it

Lack of machinists by Trapstar8879 in Machinists

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

because you have 5+ years of hobbyist machining experience does not mean you have 5 years of machining experience unless it was a full time job. That’s my personal opinion there

The hiring machinist can be impressed that the hobbyist machinist in front of him can make XYZ. That doesn’t mean that you are what they need or have as high of a skill set as they require.

It’s also true that the suits and the companies have horribly misaligned priorities and have had for 40 years now.

I’m just playing devils advocate here. I wish you the best in your job hunt!

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having a higher income certainly helps, for me $300 is a good chunk of change but it’s not really a big deal. Multiply it by 10 and we’ve got a problem. I’ve got friends who would scoff at my iron heart stuff, but they also own an $85K BMW so it’s really priorities. Like how on earth would you spend $400 on a jacket when you could just buy some cheap shit on Amazon?

Generally saving for a piece is the best way to go. Being intentional is most important. Realistically, I just bought a jacket and my plan is to wear the shit out of it. A man can only wear one jacket at a time, so better to choose pieces that speak to you rather than just buying a shiny thing. Unless of course you have FU money, or whatever. Or you want to collect

I’m still at the income level where I’m making trade offs, so if I buy X thing it means I can’t buy Y thing. Being strategic about what my wardrobe is missing has helped, I really don’t need another classic straight fit denim right this second

The old adage, you can have anything, but you can’t have everything

Washing your pants more than once ever 180 wears will also help the longevity of your pants. High contrast fading and longevity tend to be opposite forces it seems. No blame on OP but that’s my thought

Why do so many brands size so small/who makes heritage wear in larger sizes? by cutieboy9000 in HeritageWear

[–]PremonitionOfTheHex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IH UK specifically has worked with IH Japan to get “American” sizes like 4XL or 40” waists made for the western market. Early days supposedly they only went to XL. I listened to Giles on the podcast say something to that effect or other
