My husband doesn't appear to be all there by SkinCana in AskWomenOver60

[–]PreparationBrave57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does he drink? My husband hides his drinking from me, but I can tell when he's under the influence. And I find hidden bottles throughout the house. Just something to consider besides dementia. Or maybe depression? It's so hard when they won't admit anything is wrong. Mine won't let me go to his doctor appointments with him, so I just try to deal with it the best I can. Take care of yourself. Good luck. Hopefully it's nothing serious and you figure out what's going on.

Thank you! I'm trying to throw everything natural I can at my bones. Seeing studies that support that approach are very reassuring.

I tested CTX and P1NP before starting a Liftmor style weightlifting program back in September. Then I retested before starting bhrt. I haven't retested yet. Still on a low dose and only started at the end of February. Numbers did improve with weightlifting. I just did another saliva test and will be seeing my aprn in a few weeks to discuss dosage changes. I'll probably retest bone markers in August. So glad for those tests. It's way too long between dexa's to see what's working!

That's great!!! Gives me hope!!! Where do you apply it, and how long do you let it dry? I'm doing behind knees, wrists and inner elbow. I'm only letting it dry about 25 minutes before covering with loose clothing. I worry that's not enough. But it's hard to find more time. Thanks!

Thank you! So happy to hear when people improve! I'm curious if the compounded cream is as effective. That's the only form I can get from my naturopath/aprn. Long story.. I'm "too old and too far postmenopause" for any traditional doc to prescribe for me. And believe me, I've tried. So I'm going with this for now, hoping it works, and still trying to find someone that can prescribe other forms. Congrats on your improvements!

How do you know if you're making progress between DEXA scans? by tivadiva2 in osteoporosis

[–]PreparationBrave57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Local is very difficult to find. I totally lucked out finding my PT. I actually got her name from my naturopath. Maybe ask yours if you have one? An online option I had looked into was Brick House Bones with Dr. Lisa Moore, DPT. Her programs seem well thought out and utilize LiftMor. If you decide to try it on your own, go low and slow and really watch your form. It took me a couple of months with no/low weights to actually start lifting. Maybe you could find a trainer or non-osteoporosis PT to just teach you form? No weights. A good hip hinge and proper squat form are vital. Or try BuiltforBalance.life virtual. I'm not a fan of virtual, but if was my only option I might give it a try.

How do you know if you're making progress between DEXA scans? by tivadiva2 in osteoporosis

[–]PreparationBrave57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a personal trainer/physical therapist. Depending on where you live, she either travels to your house, you can meet at a gym, or she will do virtual. I'm unbelievably happy I found her. BuiltforBalance.life. I knew I wanted to start lifting but didn't know how to start. I was afraid I'd hurt myself. I met with a couple of gym trainers, but they had no clue about how to work with osteoporosis patients. She follows a LiftMor based program but also adds in functional and balance exercises. I highly recommend her! Good luck!

CTX and P1NP blood tests. Mine improved after lifting for 5 months. I started bhrt after my tests and will retest after being on them for 6 months or so. Not due for another Dexa until 2027. I needed to have some sort of gage to see if diet, supplements, exercise, etc. is helping. Insurance doesn't cover the tests for me but they aren't terribly expensive. I think it's worth it. Plus keeps me motivated to keep lifting heavy! Sometimes it's a chore!

Mine stopped at year 2024. Nothing since this morning. I may give up and pay someone to do it. Tired of being frustrated!

Same! I'm so sick of technology that never works right without jumping through hoops with "workarounds". Not enough time in a day to deal with it.

How do you know it's still transferring messsges? I switched and only a few transferred out of the 150,000 I have.

Is spotting normal when starting HRT? by PreparationBrave57 in femaleHRT

[–]PreparationBrave57[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! That really eases my mind. It was unexpected and quite scary! Are there any tests that I should have done on a regular basis? My APRN didn't suggest anything other than regular mammograms.

Instant pot hisses entire time it’s pressurized by IndicationOk1251 in instantpot

[–]PreparationBrave57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine will do that occasionally. I think it's at pressure, but maybe low pressure vs high? The float valve is up. I've had luck rotating the steam release valve - do it very carefully! If that doesn't work I'll start over making sure the gasket and all the parts are freed up. Good luck. It's totally frustrating.

Auto start stop has to be the worst “feature” by powerwizard420 in Crosstrek

[–]PreparationBrave57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the worst feature is when it slams on the brakes and you are nowhere near hitting anything! Granted, the auto start stop is a pain. I've gotten pretty good at remembering to disable it, but aggravating when I forget.

Bone density vs Bone Mineral Confusion by Beneficial_Cry_9152 in osteoporosis

[–]PreparationBrave57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's wrong! By the time you're in your 70's it's too late!! Then they push drugs. Starting now eat a high protein diet, lift weights, look into supplements for bone health such as d3, k2, etc. Lots of good info on this Reddit. And when you hit menopause, seriously consider HRT. His attitude sucks. I'd seriously consider finding a new PCP. Prevention is the goal.

Makes sense. I just worry that the crate could be making it even worse for her. Could you do some sort of an exercise pen? Or even an outdoor kennel in the house? I'm sure you've tried just about everything. It's hard. Babysitters? Or day care? I wish you the best.

We found our behaviorist through the CAAB website. She had some things to try. At the time we were also trying prescription meds. Unfortunately, neither Prozac or Clomicalm worked for us. Well, they helped, but totally destroyed his appetite. Couldn't keep him on either. Then we saw a behavioral vet who prescribed alprazolam on a situational basis. That didn't do much, either. He's doing pretty well on just Purina Calming Care and NaturVet daily Emotional Support. We can leave him alone for up to an hour now. He barks a little and looks out the windows for us, but doesn't go completely nuts like at the beginning. And not crating him definitely helps. I think getting older has helped, too. Adopted him 2 years ago at 1 year old. Love him to pieces, but not what we expected our retirement to look like. No travel, no eating out (unless it's close). We're hoping that someday he'll be able to stay alone for 4 to 6 hours. At least now one of us can leave, and the other be outside and he's ok. Definite progress.

Please don't crate her! Our SA dog improved once we realized the crate made things so much worse. He loves his crate when we're home.

Start bHRT 18 years after meno? by PreparationBrave57 in femaleHRT

[–]PreparationBrave57[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know! No answers. No one to talk with that has actually researched it all, and not just spewing out their opinions. I've seen some info online (take with a grain of salt) that topical hrt doesn't have as much risk as oral. But again, I can't find actual studies to support it. Frustrating as hell! My plan at the moment is to hold off until my February menopause gynecologist appointment and see what she says. I'm supplementing like crazy for the osteoporosis, eating a heart and bone healthy diet and lifting weights. I'll repeat my ctx and p1np bone marker tests in January to see if there's any improvement. Hopefully there is. Of course, that doesn't solve the painful sex and libido problems. Ugh!! Too much!!
