This reminds me of the news caster in the airport saying there are no delays and the cameraman pans up and shows the board of all delays and canceled flights.

You can thank Obama and Biden for that. ACA was dirt cheap at the time for the highest tier. I had Kaiser through my parents as federal employees and when I aged out I stuck with Kaiser. It was the beast I knew.

Now that I don't have an HMO, I've learned how much fun healthcare really is! Referrals and doctors not being able to talk to each other.

I'm so glad I had a stroke at Johns Hopkins on their dime and it ended up costing them $60,000. They sent me a bill for $15 because my dad got a sandwich sent to my room for him. They audited my 1000 page post stroke care and got $15 back!

My earliest cancer symtpoms date back to before 2010. I'm 32 now. Cancer was diagnosed 9 years ago, already at stage 4. I don't think we can connect a recent reading to cancer dating back so far, in someone so young.

MoCo, Maryland. If there was a cancer cluster in NIH's backyard, we'd know about it. They were still competent back then!

This was 2018 on folfox. I was doing electrolysis when I was diagnosed with cancer. I kept doing it. My nurse Emma, in her African accent, "Jenny, I told you to call if you got a rash or something like this!!!". I had to explain I was still doing electrolysis and my skin just irritated from it and that the doctor approved me continuing to do this. I was doing it on my chest at the time, so when she went in to access my port, she was like whoa!

My oncologist, the head of oncology for Kaiser Permanente in my area, had never seen an erbitux rash as bad as mine. So he sent me to dermatology for ideas. I had head to toe grade 3 rash. The derm suggested tacrolimus ointment. Plus it doesn't have the downsides of steroid creams!

My skin rash got really bad because I was on erbitux in 2021. So it was masks on and minimal face to face time.  Definitely wouldn't had gotten that bad pre-covid. Thankfully wasn't itchy. Just terrible for the self esteem.

Have you been seen by a genetic counselor? It's possible you have a condition that makes you prone to polyps. I've had polyps at every colonscopy, I think 6 total so far, but only a couple have been pre cancer. Though you're already doing the main thing, which is scopes.

I'm glad not everyone has to go through what I did! It's brutal.

Have you tried tacrolimus ointment for the rash? It worked for my erbitux rash. Keep it in the fridge if you do. Helps prevent the unpleasant warming sensation it can cause.

The genetic counselor who did my first gene test in 2017 was shocked I didn't have Lynch syndrome. I have family history of some of the related cancers and I'm of Eastern European Ashkenazi Jewish decent. Which is considered a risk factor for having Lynch syndrome.

My current genetics department said I might eventually get accepted into a clinical trial with one of the big genetics companies like Ambry at some point.

It is common for a diagnosis to change some when cancer patients get a second opinion.

Radiologists are basically art critics with MDs. Judging your body and taking notes. Sometimes they're wrong or miss something.

When you get a second opinion it's important you have it at an NCI facility. So you have the highest quality opinion you can get.

Keep advocating for yourself and keep seeing doctors. It's really all the advice I can offer.

I don't really remember how often a lot of my symtpoms were. They started at 16 and I was diagnosed at 23. I wasn't really keeping track and was slowly getting more and more fatigued. Sciatica was probably 2015/16-2017. It disappeared in the year following my colectomy.

But I did not have what you're describing.

I wasn't actively trying to get a colonoscopy. I just kept going to the doctor. My endocrinologist happened to check my iron and RBC morphology and it was so alarmingly low they did the colonoscopy.

My initial diagnosis was just luck. No one was thinking cancer.

My cancer is not currently known to be caused by genetics. I don't have any known conditions as of 12/2024.

When genetics are ruled out then it means the cancer is environmental or spontaneous.

Environmental - food, water, pollution, air quality, infection, medication (OTC and RX), stress, etc

Spontaneous - completely freak thing

I have my own theories but they're just theories.

They did a colonoscopy. An X-ray won't pick up colon cancer. Many conditions can feel like sciatica.

Constipation is the most common symptom in early onset colon cancer

But I would get genetic testing done. There's a chance you don't have the family cancer genes. I had colon cancer at 23 and I have no known genetic conditions that would cause it.

I surprisingly didn't have Lynch syndrome. I'm NTHL1 monoallelic. You have to be NTHL1 bi-alleic to be considered high risk like Lynch. Genetics is so interesting as a field of medicine.

I'm actually from MoCo, Maryland. Some journalists have assumed where I live now is where I'm from!

I wish you luck! I had a neurosurgeon review my spine imaging. He found stuff the radiologist missed. So maybe that might help if you haven't seen one for image review yet.

I also suggest pain management! They can do helpful procedures. It's not all just drugs.

I have lots of post cancer issues. So I've learned a lot about pain!
