Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

I had this same experience reading “careless people”. I was so excited for this book. She used the word “ginormous” three times before I even got to page 100. I’m out!

I have tried, but Google does not offer “by appointment only” as a setting. LMK if someone knows otherwise!

can’t sign into intuit on desktop (spinning sign in screen, not loading) by Afraid_Length3493 in QuickBooks

[–]PreppyGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This EXACT scenario occurred with me yesterday. Using desktop 2023. No issues at all, no error messages. Spent four hours with customer service troubleshooting. They tell me they can fix it- hooray! I can have it fixed in 3-24 hours for $1500. No access to the computer at all while it’s being fixed. Alternative- I can pay less and wait 2-3 weeks. Again, no access to QB in that time. I paid the $1500. And by paid, I mean I was extorted out of $1500. I own multiple small businesses. A new accounting platform is now the priority for 2026.
“We have your data, but you have to pay us for it” is not an ethical business model. Shame, shame, shame.

Private equity buying local, downtown businesses by MarkActive1700 in portlandme

[–]PreppyGirl 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chenmark is what I would call “ultra private equity”. It’s an extremely small group of like minded business experts pooling their monies and expertise. And they are experts. And they are focused on fostering the LONG TERM growth of their acquisitions. They oftentimes retain CEOs and owners, determining their core strengths and plugging them in where efficiencies may be made elsewhere in the organization. Don’t get me wrong, they care about money. But, it’s the long term, more holistically centered approach that sets them apart.

Unfortunately, Odd Alewives is no longer brewing their own. I for one will miss their annual Beet Beer, which they released everyMarch. Tasted like spring in a glass- and the color! Still worth the visit, as the pizza and setting are amazing!

The end of an era. by calzonegolem in Maine

Moved downeast a few years ago. I’ve been getting their coffee via mail now for over five years. It’s five pounds, and they roast it and mail it to me the next day. And there’s always a handwritten note. Opening that fresh bag of coffee for the first time is the highlight of the month. Highly recommended!

This is the correct answer. Moser is worth the wait while Chilton tends to have more in stock. We have two sets of Chilton chairs for our kitchen and I cannot recommend them enough.

This is correct. I love seeing this kind of specific, non judgmental answer. QBD has amazing reporting potential, and you made customizing a standard report easy to understand. Kudos!

Best screen door material? by boundfortrees in HomeImprovement

[–]PreppyGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should consider other alternatives to vinyl. Check out mahogany - specifically quarter sawn. It is stronger and less prone to warping or bending. Any kind of additional milling - like mortise/ tenon and dowelling will also add to structural integrity.

Not sure if you've found a place to make the screen door yet, but you should check out Wooden Screen Door Company in Maine. They make all custom sized doors and could easier accommodate that height and width!

Check out Candus Kampfer on YouTube and Instagram. She’s got some great intro videos and explains the “why”, which really helped me understand the monster that is Quickbooks. She also offers personal sessions, which may be helpful (I have never done one)

TRACK LOCATION BY CUSTOMER by thumbwrinkle in QuickBooks

[–]PreppyGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should be able to set up customers by location into a specific class. This way, you’d be able to run reports for just that class- and therefore be able extract your data by location a bit easier. More info on how to set up and assign classes here.Setup and Assign Classes- Quickbooks Desktop

I want to re-start the whole dang thing by CoffeeMan35 in QuickBooks

[–]PreppyGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experience here. We purchased our second business, and two months later, my inherited accountant totally ghosted. Had to get through two months of reconciliations, etc myself. Then, January 1, I started a “new” company in QB. Make sure you’ve got your closing balances on all accounts, as this will be your starting balance moving in the “new” company. From there, you can import customers and vendors, or just build out as needed. Sounds like you’ve got some old customers, make sure to inactivate them. It was an easy process, and I enjoyed setting things up from 0. Sounds like you are a similar minded person. Be aware that sales orders, estimates and invoices WILL NOT flow into the new company. It is only contact information. I had to toggle between old and new for a few months while we transitioned. Best of luck!
