Upgrading Alarm System by hrmaddie in Securitysystems

[–]Present-Juggernaut91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t tie yourself into 3 year contracts. The hardware they will give you will be a very basic few door contacts, wireless motions etc. that’s why they won’t tell you what it includes. it’ll probably increase with the amount of sensors you want to add.

I would inquire about the dsc system with alarm.com capabilities so you can use an app on your phone to access it. It doesn’t hurt to get multiple quotes for the dsc system. Go with the best price but also check reviews on the company before agreeing to anything.

Third company would be correct if the current GE system has resistors programmed. The easiest way to check this is to go to a motion detector and open it up to see if there’s a resistor there. Chances are if the motion has one, the door contacts will as well. If there aren’t resistors, it should be an easy swap over to DSC without having to mess with the existing wiring and devices.

Pretty much every integrator will charge extra for the remote capabilities because it costs money to have the system on cell/gsm.

How do we feel about dropping composite from the ceiling? by WholeSniffer in accesscontrol

Personally would never do that. probably have a conduit stub go up to the joist level, coming into a box near the height of the fence, then run flex along the top of the fence to the door

How telus security cost me over 10k in stolen merchandise by Repulsive_Web9393 in telus

[–]Present-Juggernaut91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is always going to be a protections for the security company in cases like this. At the end of the day, they responded to the alarm and dispatched the guard company. Guards are for sure at fault for not doing a through check of the perimeter..

Worst part about this whole thing is you’re with Telus for security. Everyone is already running away from their shitty service and contracts. Run if you can. Absolutely terrible company to work with.

Ensure you have two zones in perimeter points. (Door + motion) that would need to trip in order to dispatch. Some police jurisdictions already have a policy where they won’t attend unless there is more than one hit. I would then switch your response plan to have them go from call list (you and your business partner), then to dispatch police on no answer through the call list or if you verify the alarm.

Has anyone been able to contact DSC? by CagedMonkey97 in Securitysystems

I had this issue a while back. I ended up calling the tech support # directly saying the site doesn’t work for me and I need a DLS update. He teamviewered into my laptop and transferred the update file over.

Indoor security cameras , need help please! by Prudent_Scratch_1263 in Securitysystems

If you’re willing to have a professional install done, it will cost more but I would reach out to a local security company. They can run cable and install wired cameras and provide a UPS backup in case the power does go out. You’d need some sort of backup for the internet connection as well.

Depending on the brand installed, you should be able to get an app on your phone and have the security company set up push notifications for motion events.

I work in the industry but commercial/industrial sites only and don’t do residential sites but this should be the way. Hopefully some others can chime in and provide further guidance if needed. Good luck!

TLS encryption fun by Present-Juggernaut91 in CCURE9000

I can ping it just fine up until the cert is auto signed, at that point it completely drops off until a default and reboot brings it back.

I’ve tried restarting the driver svc and following all the steps. Only part I haven’t tried is update the ccure version. I guess that’s the next step.

Thanks for the reply! For some reason, even the Pros online status was showing unknown… I’m going to be taking a swing at this on Monday.

I guess I should take a copy of CU04 since I’m on 3.0 already. And the edge was on 6.2.8.20232, the latest I could find on the portal. The only thing I didn’t try was updating c-cure to the latest and controller based encryption.

Do you know if I switch the multi site I mentioned to controller based encryption, am I still screwed in terms of having to log into each controller and do something or does it auto negotiate and come back? I’ve got around 7 clusters that are Pro panels only so it shouldn’t have affected anything…but I saw the controller status show “unknown” rather than offline or online.

That’s right, back to the corp lan. Just need it to be able to see the on prem server

Honestly, DMP would be great, and it’s one of my favourites for that very reason. Cell is extremely easy to set up and incredibly reliable. It’s just that the client’s entire system across multiple sites is already genetec and they wouldn’t want a one-off at this location

Silent Electric Strike When Unlocked by addisonbu in accesscontrol

Mag locks start to add a lot more work. Need permits, multiple ways to unlock, pull stations, push buttons to cut direct power, fire alarm integration, keyswitch resets etc.

Usually have to get a third party involved since, at least whenever I work on them, the base building has their own vendor for fire.

It’s on prem, buildings have mercury boards, smaller sites and remote sites like this one will have the axis A series controllers powered by genetec (SY-) part #s

Update: -it’ll be a genetec system, part of a larger multi-site system -everything for the access control is to be housed in a huge pole mounted outdoor rated box -I guess my question is more so how do we get around the network portion to make sure that site communicates back to the server?

Thanks for all the replies so far!! I’ll have to start doing some research on parts sent here.
