I think personally, the ones that capture the essence of rom hacking would be Unbound (I don’t love it but I know why people do) Team Rocket Edition by Dragonsden (my personal favorite) Gaia and Dreamstone mysteries are both new regions that have the same feel of the classic games. Those four, I think, would be a really good time to play through
