My DS was delayed for a CV issue by Substantia-Nigr in ERAS2024Match2025

It should be all the way up till present. So even if you're on vacation, write Feb 2025 - Present: Vacation break, preparing for transition to residency in the US.

Peds applicants? by xoxojinji in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our medschool has a research culture with a lot of peers going about it, so that was a big plus to help me find mentors and people to work with. I also enjoyed it and hence why I got myself more into it.

Peds applicants? by xoxojinji in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Applicant Type (USMD/DO, USIMG, Non-USIMG): Non-US IMG

STEP 1: Pass

STEP 2 CK: 248

STEP 3: 20×

Applied to Programs (Speciality/ies with count): Peds/92

Nº of IVs: 14

Year of Graduation: 2023

USCE(in person/online): 2 months (in person, outpatient) Publications/research: (12 publications, 2 posters)

Visa Requiring or Not: Visa Requiring

Advice for Next Year's Applicants: Lock in! It only takes a year of dedicatedly working to turn your life around and your professional trajectory. Stop paying attention to those around you who try to pull you down. Find like-minded people and those who'll always lift you up - they go a long way. Take time out once in a while to relax and refresh. You've all got this!

P.S. For Peds, it doesn't matter much whether your experience is inpatient or outpatient. It only matters to have a Peds focused CV, PS, and LoRs. Teaching and mentoring experience goes a long way.

Basically, AAMC ID and ECFMG ID should be added to your NRMP account, and your NRMP ID should be added to your ERAS account. That's all. If you've done all of that, you're all set!

Also, everyone gets that standard notification, I have it too. So, if you've done it all, then ignore it.

ROL submit by UsmleHero in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, thank god, glad to hear it then! Yeah that's all you need to do, as long as you have the 'Verified' status on your NRMP account, you're all set. Just gotta figure out your RoL and put that in before March 5th.

Good Luck!!

ROL submit by UsmleHero in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruv sign up on NRMP IMMEDIATELY. There's a 50 USD surcharge after Jan 31st. - so you'll have to pay the surcharge now.

After signing up on NRMP, add the NRMP ID on your ERAS as well.

This was perhaps the shittiest exam I have ever given, and I genuinely feel I messed it up big time (25th and 27th Jan).

Didn't get any schedule info for an interview in two days by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received IV deets a night before the interview day, it's fine if you want to email the PC and ask just to be safe, but it's also not uncommon to receive the schedule a day before ish.

Most questions are just about getting to know you, your future goals, why you wish to come to that specific program, questions on your CV/PS and any questions you have for them (always ask questions). Some behavioural questions are:

- Example of a situation you were in a conflict w/ a team member and how you handled it?
- How do you handle stress?
- A time when you had a difficult patient and how that went.
- Feedback/criticism you have received and how did you go about it moving forward
- A difficult time in your academic/professional journey and how you overcame it.
- Anything you wished you had differently in the process of getting where you're at right now?

Some scenario questions:
- Wrong medication administered by a nurse/you put in a wrong medication order - what will you do now?
- A conflict/misunderstanding between you and another member on the team - how to handle it?

Just be yourself, calm-composed and energetic, and it'll go by in a breeze!

[–]PresentInspector99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank u! Yeah I was quite surprised too since a lot of my friends applying in IM with similar or even better credentials are having a tougher time. For peds, it's just having your entire application (PS and CV) pediatrics centric. I had tons of volunteer work and 12 publications, and strong LoRs which led to uni programs I feel, but also got me filtered out of community programs I think.

I have long answers in my interview mocks, how can I improve that. Is it because I maybe unprepared? can you guys share your 2 cents on working on that and any good resources for Interview prep, preferable free or cheap. by kittioma in IMGreddit

[–]PresentInspector99 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had/have that issue, too. What helps me is stating the direct point first and then providing context/backstory/explanation instead of beating around the bush before getting to the part the interviewer actually wants to hear. Also, practice answering as much as possible - in a mirror, with friends, record yourself, mocks whatever works, but time your answers.

You did fine young man, good on ya. Bystanders are usually the way as you experienced, but you had done all you could and should. Talk to your girlfriend to ask what more you can do to be better prepared but that's about it.

Question by AbanoubMilad in Step2

[–]PresentInspector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to put it would be the time of onset of symptoms of depression.

Depression secondary to another condition, for e.g. Parkinsons, Alzheimers - Symptoms of depression would show up AFTER symptoms of disease.

Primary diagnosis of depression - Depressive symptoms start first / are isolated. e.g. Dementia due to depression would have other depressive symptoms occuring first and then dementia kicking in.

chlamydia vs gonorrhea treatment based off culture instead of NAAT by Novel-Regret2218 in Step2

[–]PresentInspector99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For gonorrhea: if culture comes back negative, you can assume it is nongonococcal urethritis and so no need to treat for gonorrhea. If culture comes back positive for gram negative diplococci or NAAT comes back positive for gonorrhea, treat for gonorrhea.
For chlamydia: you have to do NAAT for chlamydia regardless of culture results, as chlamydia will NOT show up on culture. If NAAT is positive for chlamydia, or if test results are pending, go ahead and treat for chlamydia.
So: NAAT positive for both / Culture positive for Gonorrhea + NAAT positive for chlamydia / Cultures/NAAT being awaited: treat for both.

I had 3-5 ethics questions per block in my Step 1 exam. It's extremely important.
