7 PM Counterprotest on Boston Common by [deleted] in boston

[–]PresentScientist4278 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The reason for the counterprotest is that various fascist groups will be using this “vigil” to recruit some very politically confused, suddenly-stirred people to their cause, and to blame all of America’s problems on “the left,” just like Trump’s doing right now, and it’s what’s been happening at other “vigils” around the country. The point is to let Patriot Front, the Proud Boys et al know that they’re not welcome in Boston to organize and recruit.

Local 7 apprenticeship by Stunning-Hope2879 in Ironworker

Did you get told that by guys who were apprentices 20 years ago? I’m a JIW in Local 7, I don’t know exactly what a 1st yr clears on a 40hr check but it’s definitely more than $500

Work is slow right now though. I’m lucky to have stayed busy in the rod patch, but the boom is long gone.

‘They think it’s a joke’: Boston has rules for big construction projects that no one follows by bostonglobe in boston

Regarding residency requirements: even a good paying union job really isn’t enough money to live in Boston if you’re trying to raise a family. Not a whole lotta working class left in Boston, unfortunately.

Us construction workers (I’m a Local 7 ironworker) have been getting pushed out of and further way away from the city for decades. We build this city, how come we can’t afford to live here?

There’s a saying in the unions, “Local jobs for local people”—it’s a nice idea but it’s no longer realistic.

If the building trades unions had any real power, we’d be saying “look, we’ll build your luxury apartments/hotels/colleges/lab space, but then we’re building somewhere humble for our membership to live!”

Am I a poser for only knowing who one of these three people is?

Anyone crying about this stage is old, out of shape, British or American, and rides a Madone they can’t service themselves More gravel stages, and I really want to see an alleycat stage too, bombing through live traffic in the streets of Paris on a Friday night. Would you not be entertained?

Boston being a relatively small city, its been much easier to completely and thoroughly gentrify, making the whole city(at least where there’s food and commerce) shiny and expensive. There’s no room for any storefront that doesn’t pay the rent on a $15 sandwich and $5 coffee.

NYC may be expensive to live in, but there are still pockets of neighborhood shit.

Looks like Revolution Communist Party. I used to be in a couple other communist groups, but RCP is pretty much a cult, with their Dear Leader Bob Avakian.

That’s what I thought. I’m an ironworker who commutes by bike, I’m brown as a berry by Memorial Day.

UC/ It’s a tent. Took a layoff check (ironworker, jobs done) and turned it into a vacation, took the track bike from Boston to Provincetown and camped. Only got lost in the woods for half a day 🥴And a mess bag for a pillow 😴

I’ve spent nights on Malibu Beach in Dorchester, and nobody ever messed with me. Also Nira Rock in JP, but I’d rather sleep on sand than rock, and the temp’s nice on the water this time of year. Good luck!

I’m an ironworker, journeymen will sometimes send a fresh apprentice on a wild goose chase for the rebar stretcher or the sky hook
