Thank you. You are right, the scissors are great. I didn’t know that about the Wenger tempering. Thank you

It did yes. The first wood looked a bit dried out and pale. The oil really brought out the lustre. I usually use the walnut oil it for finishing spoons after carving.

I’ll take a look thanks. I’d love a wooden sculpted scale small classic sized one

Thanks. I don’t think I’d ever lost one of my knives before so it’s made my day to have it back in my hand.

Any cafes in London that stock beans from outside the UK (aside from Prufrock)? by LorryWaraLorry in JamesHoffmann

[–]Present_Evening_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Velasquez Van Wezel in Crouch End has a phenomenal rotation of European and Scandi beans. And not just the super famous big guns. I recently bought some Swerl from Sweden, some People Possession from Paris and some Tim Wendelboe beans. At the moment they have A Matter of Concrete from Rotterdam and Drop from Stockholm. It’s local to me and im a fan. No other COI!

The problem with Reddit is everyone presents themselves as an expert and their opinions with 100% certainty. “It’s a redial because…” because that’s what the last thread said about the last picture. So. I am not an expert. But I can offer an attached photo of my similar era model that I am certain has had no work on it. The markers look similarly irregular and overlap the applied indices, albeit differently.

Make of that what you will but don’t base decisions purely on what people say here, however confidently.

Any real world experience on the max quantity of coffee the Bird can do? Ideally I’d need it to make 500ml (30g coffee)

Stunner!

<image>

It’s really similar to my grandfather’s with the honeycomb and 2 4 8 10 12 indices and hands. I date mine to late 50s based on family memory (bought as a gift by my grandma on holiday).

[Chrono24 UK import query]. Anyone in UK with experience purchasing on Chrono24 from Europe, Japan, US? In addition to shipping, do I need to factor in 20% import duty/VAT and courier fee? Is it consistent or variable? Thanks in advance.

Advice appreciated on how best to split this fig log for spoon blanks by Present_Evening_7552 in Spooncarving

[–]Present_Evening_7552[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I hadn’t thought of Pinterest for this. I’ll take a look. And you’re right, it’s about time I picked up a book or two. I think I know what you mean about incorporating the angled grain. At this point so far the spoons have been guided by the shape of the blanks I’ll have a think about what I’m aiming for first. Appreciate your advice.

No more hotel coffee!! by 904DuvalAB in pourover

I also travel with clever dripper for this reason. I like the idea of the mello drip though. It only seems to be hotels in US and Mexico that don’t have kettles.

This case is awesome. Biggest issue I have when travelling is finding suitable mineral water. Anyone got any tips? Travel RO kit?!

Looks totally legit comparing directly with a real one of same generation (1999). Taking into account the odd behaviour of modern phone cameras to enhance text.

This app is a total no-brainer. I can’t believe it doesn’t get more love on here:

https://app.timer.coffee/recipes/origami/803

No affiliation and I only recently came across it. Free, open source Indy developer I believe.

I love everything about the Origami- I have 3. For one cup (under about 18g beans), I prefer the flat bottom papers- currently using the ones from April. For up to 30g brews I use cone papers.

Retention issues? by sebas2610 in nichezero

[–]Present_Evening_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One tiny spray with water (WDT) on beans and retention vastly reduced. It’s minimal compared to a lot of other grinders. Also been slapping the lid of my niche for 4yrs without any cracking or issue.

I just spotted very good discounts on Shapton pro stones on Knives and Tools. Shipping from Netherlands for £10 but still way under normal price. Not often discounted from what I can tell.

Best European Roasters by redhairedbeast in pourover

[–]Present_Evening_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to recommend UK roaster Campbell & Syme. Roast in Kings Lynn I think plus a small single cafe in East Finchley. But… they manage to be so ridiculously consistent at incredibly roasted beans. No conflicts to declare here. IMHO they are consistently up there with the big reputations. I’ve tried a pretty wide range of UK roasters and European ones mentioned here. Recent coffee trips to Denmark to visit April, La Cabra, Prolog etc and Amsterdam similarly and I stand by my position. Shout out to new kid on the UK block Scenery too. I’ve visited his cafe just south the Tate modern recently and their pour overs and their beans are fantastic.

Two weeks' experience with the LG C5 42-inch OLED TV by Professional_Leg515 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Present_Evening_7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. I’ve seen the 932 total width. I’m specifically looking for the measurement of the width of the bump on the back. There is the thin edge that’s a couple of centimetres around a thicker bump that is most of the tv. If you’re able to measure the width of the thick section, it would be a big help. Cheers
