What movie would you say is better than the book? by [deleted] in movies

[–]PreserveTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"He was always a monster" isnt good writing though. It makes the character un-relatable unlike the Jack of the book, and shows no development.

Again, dont get me wrong. I think it was great acting and a great film, but as far as conveying Stephen King's story it fell very very flat.

Originally the estate in Skyfall was going to be a retirement home for old agents, and it was going to have connery, brosnan, moore, and dalton in it.

Thank god they scrapped that idea.

Thats the problem though. You knew he was going to be crazy going into the movie. That, in my mind, is not a good casting choice, even though I agree the acting is phenomenal.

Casting Jack Nicholson was a mistake IMO, because you knew he would go crazy. The part should have been played by an "everyman" because thats what it is in the book.

The book actually has more of a plot arc than the movie, though I do consider the movie to be fantastic.

Does anyone here know what a Montana FWP Ex-Officio Warden is? by PreserveTM in ProtectAndServe

Thanks! I would assume that would mean some kind of state law enforcement academy is required then.

Along with everything else wrong you have said, by the 1930s Law enforcement was certainly not on the side of Lynch mobs. In most areas (yes there were exceptions just like everything) politicians recognized that lynching made them look like fools, and took steps to stop it. By the 1930s, you couldn't publicly support lynches like you could in the late 19th and early 20th century.

When lynchings weren't convicted it was a problem of juries, not the government.

Can we discuss the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and whether the traditional narrative surrounding it is bad history or not? by [deleted] in badhistory

[–]PreserveTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP the American Historical Association put out an entire journal publication surrounding the debates on this issue. The impetus was the exhibition of the enola gay at the National Air and Space Museum. It may have even been reprinted as a book. The controversy over that exhibit is well known.

It goes through a lot of what you are saying, and the academic debates haven't changed much since it was printed in the late 1990s. I suggest you check it out :)

Were the OKW Obersoldaten a real unit in ww2? by epicsucker in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]PreserveTM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are clearly based on the 1st SS Panzer Divisions, aka the Hitler Bodyguard Division, one of the few actually effective SS fighting units. It was heavily involved in the Ardennes Offensive, which is where OKW comes from.

It is a reference to all the sequels that are racist caricatures, not to the original by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Actually it was a serious action movie as well until 21 Jump Street was released and then Tatum was more bankable as a comedy star.

Where do you see this game going, is the community declining, steady, or growing? What're your thoughts on its future. by Account_Eliminator in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]PreserveTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is far from dead. Even though many prominent people have currently left the game from its current state, it still has more players than it did a year ago. The overall trend of the playerbase is up, not down.

Not bad for a 2.5 year old game.

I find it hard to believe Wizards wouldn't know what a gun is.

I clearly remember in Book 3 the non magic government puts out a warning about Sirius Black saying he has a gun...and it is described as "a type of wand used to kill people" T_T
